I was just examining my traffic log, and I notice that whenever I visit AnandTech, I get a bunch of outgoing traffic heading to "realmedia-a800.d4p.net". It only shows up when using on AnandTech.

I noticed there are lots of them, and they only appear on AnandTech. Traffic is shown as going both directions. Yes, banner ad but it appears to be more than that. Two of them in particular seem to slow everything to a crawl, network.realmedia.com and ad.uk.doubleclick.net. I filtered out these "ads" using my firewall and now moving around AnandTech has become much speeder. I get the feeling they're sending info back to the mothership.

realmedia-a800.d4p.net <--- something i ban/ed from my computer and sucking up my bits a long time ago!!!

That's one of them, also:

204.176.177.140 206.65.183.140 (Doubleclick)

and

209.17.182.72, 209.225.14.12 (Realmedia)

and

65.57.83.12 (Micromedia) and frankly, the list goes on.

Use something like AdAware and it will identify a lot of them for you. Everytime it identifies spyware cookies, files, etc.... block that site from your browser.. it will really clean things up for you.

(doubleclick got shutdown for privacy violations a few months back..... MUHAHAHAHA! )
