Looks like an overly complex DIY speaker. Ribbon tweeter, tweeter, dome midrange, and woofer....usually a bad idea to combine multiple tweeters. Also a three way 4-way design in a speaker this size is unnecessary. But I guess that's why its called DIY...

Could be a 2" midrange. I'm not sure what it is - it looks like it has a tangential metal surround which I've never seen in a non-horn tweeter... That, or it's got a really wide rubber surround.

I have never seen those middle two drivers before.

EDIT: I'm going to nitpick and say that it's a planar, not a ribbon tweeter. :)

I doubt it is a design that would sound good. Looks like a planar/mag tweeter on top, a small co-axial mid/tweet car speaker, a larger co-axial mid/tweet car speaker, and some bass driver with not much excursion capabilities.

Well it sure looks cool, mustve taken some DIY skill to put that thing together.

DIY Skill
Damn that is sweet.

One of the pictures was showing off the finish of the speaker. I didn't know there was a speaker because all I saw was his backyard. After looking very very closely, I saw a slight disruption in the image which tipped me off that I was infact seeing the reflection of his backyard :Q

Good call on the planar...that's what I get for taking a quick glance and assuming...

Looks like the two middle drivers are from the same manufacturer. Like you, they don't look familiar to me either.

Wow, that looks uber cool. I've got some time on my hands. Where do I start if I want to look into building one of these monuments.

DIY of that magnitude takes a lot of skill, time, tools, perspiration.

You'd need speaker modeling software, carpentry tools (lots of clamps, router, etc), and practice.

Here is where many of them hang out

With that all said, you won't be jumping directly to those monoliths. Rather, subwoofers are a great starting point because they give you an idea of box design, driver mounting, baffles, basic wiring, bass loading design. The next level is 2-way speakers where you have to get involved with crossover design. Then you progress with your finish skills, and cabinet inertness. Then maybe you can try one of those complex designs. They take over a year to complete obviously. The simpler ones can take a day if you know what you are doing (most of the time being glue setting).
