Rummaging thru the office closet, I found something similar to this:
products_gateway_01.png

it's a ThinkEco ModLet Gateway.

no one in he office knows what it is nor who ordered it.
it looks like it's been sitting in that closet for years.

their homepage says:
ThinkEco, based in New York City, is a green technology company founded in 2008 with the mission to a create a cost-effective energy efficiency solution. As a result, we developed the modlet, a self-installable solution that makes it simple to bring energy awareness and device-level energy management to home and office environments.

and this is what they say about the Modlet:
The modlet was launched as a residential product in 2010 and has been available to commercial customers since early 2011. Since then, our offering has expanded with the development of the smartAC kit, a unique product to intelligently control room air conditioners (AC), and the creation of a diverse technology platform for third party hardware integration. The modlet platform is now being used by utilities across the nation to manage their peak system loads from room ACs and other loads.

Still don't understand. Any help?

It sounds like one of those energy monitoring widgets that makes sure that your air conditioner and whatnot runs at off-peak times to cut your electricity bill.

There is a company called Check-IT in Canada that makes something similar to this:

While the Developer page describes the Devices in what looks like Ferengi. :colbert:

Amazon page describes it in local English.

ahh..thx.

so it's like kill-a-watt in which it tracks energy usage.
plus a timer that turns the equipment on/off.

and you can do it all wirelessly.

kinda neat if you're into that.

I have a kill-a-watt at home. after using it for a couple of months, it's collecting dust.
and I have my lamp plugged into a cheaper timer from walmart that's plugged into the outlet. turns on at nite to deter thieves breaking in my house.

guess i'll stick this thing back in the closet.. lol

While some of this stuff is neat and all, I'm not a big fan because of the proprietary nature and the fact that lot of these type of things are cloud based. It's a huge security issue imo. I rather roll my own using arduino and have a localized server control it. If I want to access it from the outside I use VPN. Can also use simple NO/NC circuits that work with a multitude of things, heck, I monitor mouse traps with my system. :awe:
