What is this SetiQ thing?

I keep hearing this mentioned, what is it. I am assuming it is something to download extra work units rather than 1 at a time right? I am interested because my cable modem service went down for awhile today, so Seti just stopped and said it would try again in an hour...grrr...wasted time! Thanks in advance..🙂

Must...increase production....muusssttt....🙂

Yes, SetiQueue is a work-caching program for SETI. Ken Reneris (the programmer) is currently working on a totally new version, so it's still in BETA phase, but works pretty darn good for me so far... 😉

You can get it here.

Hehehe.... you're sounding like a long time fanatic now Insane3D 😎

/me likes it... 😉

SetiQ is in fact what you think it is, a queing mechanism for S@H so that you won't have to go without work if your internet goes down or the S@H servers go down (which happes too often:|) There are more than one option for queing tho', if we're talking about one machine SetiDriver is what is usually recommended since it's ALOT easier than SetiQ to setup.

What I do is I run SetiDriver on my machine with a 6 WU buffer, and connect that to OrangeKid's SetiQ, which auto adjusts it's buffers according to how much you flush to it over a couple of days, and it buffers 12 WUs for me at the moment I think. So total I've got 18 WU's buffered for my PIII 800 which does around 3/24 hours. 😉 Hope this helps some 😉

Thanks, I just downloaded it, but I have a couple questions. First, I am using the command line client, and I am not familiar with the commands to set the client's port settings like it says in the install notes. Also, I was scrolling throught the client's display, and when it completes a WU it reads the following:

Done with work unit.
Sending result - connecting to server.
All data sent.
SETI@home account summary:
Name: Insane3D
Data units completed: 24
Total computer time: 113 hr 11 min 57.2 sec
Logged in as Insane3D
Number of work units processed: 24
Total CPU time: 407517.152404
Found data file: no. Found result header file: no.
Getting data - connecting to server.

Does that mean there is something wrong with my WU? Thanks in advance..🙂

SetiDriver is much easier to use for just one computer...

The command line parameter for a proxy is -proxy hostname:port#.

The line <<Found data file: no. Found result header file: no.>> is nothing to worry about. That just means that it's not in the middle of processing a work unit, so it needs to get another one. If you get that message and don't get the 'connecting to server' message immediately afterwards, THEN you may need to be concerned..

Thanks guys, I am using Seti Driver now. I wanted to set my cache for 10 days worth of WU. Since I get a little over 4 hours per unit, I figured 6 per day and 10 days make 60 WU. Soooo, I set the cache for 60..sound cool? Also, what should I have "Maximum Processes" set to? It's at 1 now...thanks again. 🙂

6 days of cache is quite a bit, but shouldn't be a problem, since many of us normally cache between 3 and 5 days worth.

Maximum processes shouldn't ever be anything more than 1 unless you have more than one CPU in your system...

Insane3D: "Wasted time"? "Must increase production"? Oh, you are soooo hooked! We like that! 🙂

You're well under 5hr/WU. I'm not sure if you realize it or not but that's freaking screamin'! Congrats on the rig! 🙂

Yep, SETIDriver is best for a single computer. 🙂 I even run mine at high priority after I go to bed. 😀

Thanks guys, it seems to work very well. I already started setting it to high priority when I go to bed..it's funny how much it slows everything down. 🙂

Oh, one thing though. I am having some trouble using Seti Spy and Seti Driver together. I have Seti Driver setup to use Seti Spy for display, but Seti Spy just keeps saying "Idle". Another weird thing is I am working on two units at once?!? I have the regular client running a work unit through Seti Spy, and the Seti Driver program is working on a different one...what's up with this?

I think you need SetiSpy run from the same directory as SetiDriver if you haven't already done that...

Also, a single instance of SetiDriver will only show you the progress of the oldest WU being processed if more than one are going at the same time. If you're running 2 at once, then you can just run 2 instances of SetiDriver to monitor each instance of seti.

I have found Seti Driver to do everything that I used to use Seti Spy for, except I like the logging in Seti Spy better. 😉

Before caching extra work units, I ran the Dnet client at the same time as Seti, so if I could not connect to Seti's server, I would still be cracking something. I found that with the 3.03 GUI, the Dnet client would take ~20% of the CPU time, and the Seti WU times would suffer for it. The Seti Driver/3.03 CLI combo works much nicer, and if I run the Dnet client, SETI stays at ~98%

Thanks Poof, that was it. I put the setispy.exe in my seti driver folder and it's all set now..thanks! 🙂

28 work units so far..🙂

Maybe I should build another one of these systems....hmmmm..😀 🙂
