i booted up today, but it stopped short of totally booting up. i did a control-alt-delete and saw this program called "openme" was not responding. i did a search and found openme.exe in the c:\windows folder. i run my virus scanner all the time. nothing was reported. i did a websearch. there were a couple of references to it being a trojan. i found a line in system.ini to hooked it to windows' explorer.exe (f-ing stupid windows). btw, why the hell does windows explorer have to access the internet?

anyway, anyone else ever heard of this openme.exe? oh yeah, there was a line in the window's register about openme.exe. it was under a Norton's Cleansweep Deluxe key. I have cleansweep that came with Norton's (and it's in the registery) but it's not called Norton's Cleansweep Deluxe. I deleted the whole friggin' key.

Ya gonna update your virus definitions regularly now? ;) I haven't ever heard of it, but it sounds like you read up on it, hopefully you got it all!

my virus definitions are checked automatically every day, and updated if needed.

i also ran a trojan removal program, as well as some spyware remover. nothing.

I found it too a few days ago. I deleted it and my computer still runs fine, but I get an error when I reboot saying it can't find it. I'd really like to know what program put it there and what it does too.
