I never noticed this before and I can't see it while gaming and mostly dark backgrounds like black but anytime I use windows vista its very noticeable.

Contacted the company and they said its one of the ways a lcd monitor fails and caused by a failure in the LCD panel, possibly a separation of the panels in the screen but it only about 8 months old and they said I needed to pay $50 and shipping to them to get it fixed. Is it worth it ?

Well looks like I can get it fixed or I can hope it doesn't get worst. I will just have to use dark background colors so I can not have it annoy me as much.

Try updating or changing drivers, but I have my feelings its not a driver problem...........

Your still under warranty so might have to use it =\

i had a similar problem in my [dell] notebook's LCD ... evidently the glue ... or whatever they did while putting it together stained the screen.

Why do they want $50 to fix it under warranty?
- Dell *accused* me of spilling liquid in mine [i used Visa to repair it for free - Dell can go to hell]

WHAT company charges $50?
So i don't get one [dell?] :p

Well now they are telling me that they only charge $50 if I ask for a exchange instead of a repair of the current monitor. So my only cost would be shipping and handling to them. If they can't repair it they will send me reused monitor because they don't even make these lcd monitors anymore but I would of got a reowned one anyway because after 30 days you do. Thats a lot better when just having to pay shipping and handling. The company is NEC.

Do you all think they will be able to repair it ? I did buy this monitor with a credit card!
Citicard to be exact. What could they do for me or should I even try ? I don't really mind paying shipping and handling as long as its not a arm and a leg. I just don't have a box really to ship the lcd monitor in.

Try calling them again. Chances are you will get another guy on the phone, who may tell you something quite different. Their policies on RMA procedures are not consistent. I also found myself in a situation once when they were charging me $50 for some stupid reason (just for advanced replacement, which they had always done for free in the past). I initially refused, but changed my mind a few minutes later and called again, and this time the guy didn't say anything about any fee even when I asked about it.

NEC's customer support is obviously going downhill. They used to be one of the best a few years ago.

 This is the same thing I have noticed. Won't be buying another nec monitor.

Thanks. Do you think I should try to get them to pay for shipping and handling to them as well?

It's worth a try. They always covered it both ways for me, and I've done RMAs with them a couple of times in the past. The last time was with a 90GX2 last year, which they took care of very well (the second guy I talked to anyway).

I guess it's just as well that their CS is mediocre now, since with the GX2 line discontinued they no longer have any particularly standout products anyway.

Interesting. Did you have only the standard 3 year lcd monitor warranty ? Did you ask them to cover it both ways or did they just say they would ?

What did they do about having you without a monitor for about a week or two ?

They gave me an advanced replacement. I got the new one the next day (not sure if it was new or refurb, but it looked new in any case and had no dead pixels) and had 21 days to return the old one, with shipping covered both ways. It doesn't get much better than that. I had to ask for it though and only the second guy I talked to would let me do it without any fees.

I did the same thing with some CRTs a few years ago, but didn't have to ask for it specifically; they did the same procedure by default.

Awesome! Do you remember who you talked to or at what time you called ? Did you use the phone number on their website or a different one ? Nice having the cross ship because then you have a box and packaging to ship the broken one to them easily. No problem if you threw away the box!

I called the tech support number in the manual. It's probably the same as the one on their site. I don't remember any names now, only that it was a different person each time. It was some time in the afternoon. This was a while ago though, late 2006 if I remember right. My existing 90GX2's power transformer had apparently blown a fuse for some reason and the monitor wouldn't turn on fully.
