What is this mpeg doing? (strange behaviour during playback)

Hi there!

I got a video file just today which is behaving really strange.

It is a 70 mb .mpg, but plays back in just one minute in all the players I have (WM, Winamp, Divxplayer), even though the resolution indicates that there should be much more than one minute of video.

When it reaches the end, the sound keeps playing on for a while, but the picture freezes. But here is the strange part: when I "rewind" the file during this one minute of playing time, it plays a different bit of video, a bit I haven't seen yet, from further ahead in the sequence!

So, it is as if all the sequences are contained in the file, but only the first bit can be played back, and I have to "search back" and the following sequences appear. Very weird, I think.

I tried analysing the file with Gspot, but it can only tell it is an .mpg, no other info shows up, just "n.a.", no answer.

If anybody knows what's going on, I'd be happy to know!

Thanks,

Freycinet

Don't watch that movie....if you do you'll receive a phone call saying "7 DAYS...."... LOL :D

On the serious....... try opening the file with VirtualDub (freeware), if it opens go to FILE > FILE INFO, if the file it's OK it should give you lots of info about the file, including the codec, total time, etc.

If it doesn't then the file could be corrupted or something.

Cheers

Better yet try opening in a app called gspot. If you google it you will find it right away, just make sure to NOT click on the advertised links that come up with a google like that. :p
