What is the job title/name of someone who helps people refinance their mortgages or get loans from a bank (ie: they act as a buffer between the person and the bank)? I don't mean real estate agents who sell actual houses though, just help with loans and stuff.

This guy I knew in highschool got poor grades, didn't go to college, was and still is a druggie, and is now doing this job and he makes $400,000 a year (wow). His smarter college graduate twin brother now does this too (with the help of his brother) and he makes the same amount. They are millonaires almost now. And they apparantly can work out of their homes and have lots of free time. I just want to read up on this a bit.

It really made me feel like a big loser! I am fascinated with this guy's self-made success.

Edit: iliopsoas: You are right. They are actually working in SF. They bought their own little 1+ million dollar 4 room apt building and they rent out 2 of the rooms to other people. I'm going to go crawl in a hole now.

Those people probably had connections somehow to the bank and got a lucky break... don't count on getting into a similar situation.

I didn't say I want to do this job. I want to learn about it. I am incapable of doing any job relying on communication with people.

My guess is that they are investment bankers?

definitely not investment bankers.... mortgage brokers, as fobot mention, sounds about right.

400k a year, though, sounds like BS for a typical mortgage broker... and I doubt they can work at home either.

Could be a loan originator. They usually work on commission, based on business they bring in.

these mortgage brokers & loan agents are raking in a ton of money in the SF Bay Area. With real estate price so high and many people refinancing, they're just rolling in the cash. Trust me. They're making $400K easily. That's why quite a few Asians I know are going into this field after getting laid off from the high tech sector.

When the interest rates go back up they won't be making diddly.
