It is the metal grate that they sometimes use on bridges that has little diamond-shaped holes.

It looks like this except with diamonds.
 
that picture is bar grating. I don't know what you are referring too....keep looking for a picture. Expanded metal has diamond shaped holes, but it is a flat sheet.
