I have an Asus A7V266-E mobo...I wanted to update the processor to an AMD 2400 with the Thouroghbred core and knew I needed bios version 1011 for that. So I ordered it. First time Asus sent me 2 chips that wouldnt even post! Then a different tech sent one that posted but gave me the error message: ERROR: Can't write ESCD. Asus thus far has not returned my calls or been helpful. This problem is now over a month old. I wish someone would explain what the Etended system configuration data error message is coming up for. I'm wondering if reformatting the Hard drive will fix the problem with a fresh Install of Windows XP? Many techs including Asus seem to not know what this is or what to do about it. But I have had 4 techs tell me to have Asus send another bios chip with the Beta version 1015.002 on the chip. I have searched the internet, called Microsoft and have gotten no real answer as to what is causing this error message. The former guru of Asus tech support my buddy John told me to tell Asus to send yet another chip but this time send the 1015.002 beta version...

I would just like to know what the error message is coming up for in the first place???????

I have an explanation I found of what ESCD does. But NOTHING on the net explaining what the error message means. You would think Asus could contact the bios manufacturer for an explanation as I tried it and they provide no tech support but refer you back to the MOBO manufacturer..
This seems to be an Asus problem from the few posts I have found...but they give no info as to what is causing this error. And I have tried clearing cmos...resetting the config data in bios and that has not helped.

Thanks...
Lart

Could you put your "Asus A7V266-E mobo bios chip" in the Topic Summary to draw in people with your motherboard. For instance, I am not sure why you need a chip with the new bios version instead of just downloading it.

Often the error messages are for developers and not for the users who may eventually uncover them. Therefore, you may never know what that error message is for.

My recommendation is to go with the latest bios version (chip?).

Update went to the 1015.002 beta bios and it didnt help clear the error...Just created more problems like reporting my processor as a Duron and in the bios the tempratures were reading way to LOW. So I went back to the 1011 bios...Still have the Error message when booting to windows. Anyone have a clue????
