What is this Abit IP35P LGA775 board?

There was some discussion of this board when it appeared a month ago. Read towards the bottom of p 6 for my comments. Essentially the specs seem identical to the IP35-E, but it comes with an 'EZ' external CMOS clearing switch (good!). Unfortunately the board appears to offer inferior cooling to the IP35-E, so it may not overclock as well.

I'm a little surprised we don't hear more about this board considering how popular the IP35-E was.

Edited: found the direct comparison thread. Bryan notes the apparent lack of PWM cooling.

Also X-bit labs reviewed the IP35P recently! They consider it to be positioned below the IP35-E, and in their view the board looks surprisingly spare (it is without a doubt an economy board). They found the overclocking disappointing, but it still managed 4.1 GHz with an E8400.
 
The lack of PWM cooling can be a problem. On the 680i chipset, there are some burned out boards that people thought was caused by overheating northbridges, but it was PWM cooling. The crap blank sink with some white gunk at the bottom is the culprit. At stock, the mobo is ok.

Whoa. You got an IP35 Pro. That's prolly the best s775 from Abit.
 
Thanks for the info Winterpool! Excellent links on the previous discussions. It does look like the board is a no frills budget piece from Abit. I have read that Abit is not doing so well with the Motherboard competition from 1st tier mfg. This could be their consolidation measure to capture the budget market, as well as maintaining a presence in the high end. They have the new IP35 Pro XE, and it competes very well against other high end boards.

Yeah, I used to have the Abit IP35-E, it was great, but I just couldn't really live with the double booting (I have battery backup, and I usually turn off the backup when I'm not using the computer, so double booting still occurs when you cut off main power).

Then I got the IP35 PRO, let me tell you it's a fantastic board! All solid caps, and also better heat dissipation arrangement. My vDroop reduced to half of what it was on IP35-E, which means Abit used better circuitry on their flagship board. Also no more double booting issues due to the uGuru chip.

I still think the IP35-Express is a great board for the price though. And I'm thinking this IP35P could be a worthy replacement for the E. As the new "budget" board for Abit, I have no doubt it'll work well, but it does look a bit sparse.
 
imo it's a range extension like the IP35V, I-G31.
abit of course aren't just catering to the US market but worldwide demand & if there is enough demand for a cheaper, no frills mobo then they'll make one.
re. the PWM I don't think that it's just cooling, I think that there is aslo 1 less phase on the P than the -E which again would point to a lower position.

I don't know why the -E seems hard to get in the US atm as it's still widely available in Europe.
