What is there to know about 120mm case fans?

So my case came with a preinstalled 120mm fan, it does not have a motherboard connector so I have it running at medium all the time. I was thinking I could make my computer a bit more silent if I replace it with a dedicated fan.

The problem is I know absolutely nothing about them, and TBH I'm not too interested in specs, just that it's not flashy, not too expensive and its speed can be controlled through software. So I looked at Newegg's top sellers and there are a few <$10 fans.

My questions are the following:

-Is $10 a good price for one of these fans?
-Is there anything I need to know about compatibility with my case?
-Are there any quality brands that I should look for?

Thanks 😉

Sounds as if you are using the included Antec Tri Cool fan. It isn't the best low noise fan in the world, but you didn't pay any extra for it. See if it can keep your system cool enough on the low setting? If so, then leave it like that and run it until it dies.

Yeah I was thinking of this too, I guess I'll try it now that I'm replacing my 4850 with a cooler card. I'm pretty sure it'll do well when I'm browsing the web and doing spreadsheets, it's the gaming part that I'm not so sure of.
