Sorry I had a slight typo, which made my post confusing (it is corrected in bold above). The 3 cards were all 2 different computers (one computer had the card replaced under warranty with the same card). Putting in new video cards worked fine and moving those cards to another computer (with another monitor and cable) had the same ghosting problem. All failed within 1 year of each other (simply since they all were about the same age).Originally posted by: VirtualLarry
That actually sounds like a signal-reflection problem, most likely from a damaged video cable leading to the monitor. I get something like that when I connect my PC (any video card) through a mechanical VGA switchbox, and then to a monitor (any monitor). The ghosting can be more or less pronounced depending on the components, but is definately caused by the switchbox. I wouldn't totally rule out the card though, but having three fail in an identical way? Did they all fail at the same time? That would be another indicator that it might be something other than the card(s). OTOH, if buying a new card fixed the issue, and then it failed after a time, and then another was purchased, and the older ("broken") cards also displayed ghosting on other monitors/systems, then I would be forced to conclude that it was the cards themselves.Originally posted by: dullard
At work and at my parents house, I had 3 out of 3 nVidia TNT cards which worked great for 2 years and then suddenly created ghost images (a faint duplicate of everything offset by about 1 mm). I concluded that that model just sucked.

The TNT2 Vanta Card i used to have had horrible 2D quality in 1600x1200 ... in 1280x960 it was bad, and in 1024x768 or less it was Good.
If you are going to run at a low resolution, anything would be fine, if you need 1600x1200 or 1280x960 you should consider only Gforce or newwer Nvidia cards, and any ATI cards with enough memmory to support the colors/res you want (if 1600x1200 I recommend 16MB or more so you can run 32bit) or any Matrox card with enough memmory.
