ie - you did not watch the event on tv or on a webcast, etc, but you actually witnessed the event.

i can't remember anything worse than being on the other side of the hudson river in hoboken and watching the world trade center billowing smoke and one of the towers crashing to the ground and fearing that my wife(fiancee at the time) was being crushed by debris or being trampled by stampeding people.

Watching a UHaul trailer's tires collapse, tilting a small truck on it's side and sending it from the slow lane of I-5 coming out of LA all the way to the median. There was an infant who died in the truck, and the wife sustained a pretty big gash. The husband had no injuries. Tires seem to be a major issue with Uhaul vehicles.

I haven't seen much. I've never seen a car accident take place unless I was in the car (so that doesn't count), never seen anybody fight, get shot, hurt, etc. etc. Nobody's ever died in front of me.

My roommate and wifes best friend dying on my living room floor?
My ex girlfrined funurel after she started the car and closed the door when everyone else was at my daughters babtism?
The funeral announcement for my friend who was killed in a single car accident after having one too many for the road?
My best friends hand after he got shot at PB range in the finger?

Yeah, people wonder why i have a fvcked up view of life. Now you all know.

My wife (At the time girlfriend) and I met this girl. Online actually. Crazy. Anyways, we she was 16 and loved kids. We had 2 and needed a babysitter. So, she came voer a few times, we got to know her, she was pretty cool. She babysat a few times for us over the course of some time, and eventually her and my wife grew to be very close friends. We finally got a duplex together (Me n the wife, her and her b/f) and they lived in teh basement while we took upstairs. It was pretty cool, she LOVED kids so was always happy to babysit and help out, and her and my wife did alot together. Well, (And we knew this all along) she had a disease called Marfans (sp?). Well, we lived together for...Ohh... 6 or 7 months. Around that time she ended up getting pregnant, and was thrilled. She didnt go to the doctor however, because due to her medical condition they would not have allowed her to carry the child to full term. (She had already had 1 heart surgery). Also, she stopped taking her heart medication in case it would damage the fetus.
About a month goes by, at the time (I still do) I worked nights, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM. Well, about 11:10 I get a call at work from the wife. She says our roommate was on the couch watching Friends I think with her, then just stood up, grabbed her chest and collapsed on the floor. My wife called 911 then started CPR (She worked in a hospital for a few years and at the time had a current Health Care license). Anyways, I go home and get there about 10 minutes later. I pull into my complex and see 3 cop cars, and ambulance and one of the SUV First Response vehicles. I walk into a fvcking war zone. The living room has had everything pushed to the side, 5 paramedics are around her, her shirt is cut away and they have an automatic heart pump dealyo goin on her while they give her CPR and get ready to move her. My wife was upstairs, an utter wreck. Anyways, they end up taking her to the hospital, we get ahold of her mom and go get her. We all go to the hospital, but by then she had already passed away. Dead on Arrival, although she didnt die instantly. Her heart valve ruptured, she essentially bled to death.
Rest in Peace Holly Anne Justice. She died 3 years ago almost to the day, 17 and 1 month pregnant.

Funny how one event appears completely different from two points of view. I also know sports pain well (with my Aggies) after this season.

I've heard a bit about marfans. It's a heart defect that can take people early on in life and even a fit person can just pretty much die instantly from it. I think it's a valve defect and some symptoms are long gangly fingers I believe and being very thin and/or tall. I'm not sure if an operation can repair it (apparently not), but it's something that a person may have and they probably don't know about it.

Yep, its pretty much a death sentence. Surgurys can help, but if you got it, you got it. Hollys mom has had I believe 3 heart surgurys as well as 2 strokes. Amazingly, she's in very good shape, you wouldnt know anything is wrong outside of her being very tall and lanky. She has decided to forego any more heart surgurys, when its her time its her time.

wow paramedics usually see some of everything. what happened with the failed suicide attempt? I can't imagine someone surviving a gun blast under the chin, I bet they really wish they were dead now

- Watching a person be stabbed in the throat with a pen and possibly killing him (didn't stick around to find out)

- Watch a person curbed (teeth on a street curb like in American History X)

- Trying to help a person hit by a car who had a skull fracture (occipital bone) and compound fracture of the femur

- Seeing the body of a man murdered with an ax

- terrified woman who ran to my door after getting away from a rapist (and I held him with my gun until the cops came, chalk one up for guns).

- Seeing different friends & people at different times in my life OD on alchohol, coke, speed, or whatever they could find and having to help them.

other things that get way to personal

When I walked in to the hospital room for the first time after finding out my friend was paralyzed. It was about one week after the freak accident happened, but he was all bruised up from the head gear that they had to screw in to his skull, plus the trauma of his neck breaking, and from all of the surgery they had to do.

In my observation, frats tend to be very homophobic. Just my observation, I could be wrong. I can't believe they would do such a thing.

Two things have always stuck in my mind...

1. The aftermath of the OKC bombing. I was there just a matter of hours after it happened. Awful....truly awful. Words just can't describe it.

2. When I was in high school we were playing golf and heard this big crash come from the road that ran next to the hole we were playing. We ran up and two cars had collided head on. One had flipped and was upside down. The driver of the other car was out walking around. Inside the upside down car was a woman dead from what we later found out was a broken neck, a small baby that's head was crushed and it was dead, and child in the back seat still strapped in it's car seat. We pulled the live child out and it was ok, but...well the scene was horrible. The other driver that was out walking around? Turns out he was drunk and had crossed the line and hit the family. I hope that rat bastard burns in hell.

I was on a high school swim trip one time and the bus was in traffic on the interstate and passed a pretty bad accident between a motorcycle and a car, only they had tried to cover the guy on the motorcycle (the remains I mean, not everything was there) with a sheet, which blew off as we drove by, it didn't really bother me that much, but it freaked a lot of other people out, I dunno, I mean the guy died and thats kinda sad, but I didn't know him, so it almost dehumanizes him in my view.
