The citizens of New Hampshire are mourning the loss of this familiar icon and appreciate the many expressions of condolence that have been pouring in. The New Hampshire Division of Parks and Recreation has established an e-mail address - oldmanmemories@dred.state.nh.us if you would like to submit any thoughts or remembrances regarding the Old Man for possible inclusion in this online Scrapbook.

you got to be fuc#ing with me thats the best design our state could come up with--why not vince lombardy (spelling). We have the most insain football fans, itd beat the he!! out of the cow and cheese. Why not have a man drink a beer and wearing a cheese head at a football game (that probably best represents our state (football, cheese, and beer)--wait the guy has to be fat because we are the fatest state)

One vote for Texas, they figured out it won't work in machines & recalled them.

Really wish I had a roll of the first run of Texas quarters about now.

Being Texan, I'm definitely not feeling the Texas one. That's suckage. Even the design with just the big San Jacinto star would be better -- at least it looks like something that would be on a coin.

Wisconsin's quarter isn't that bad. It relies upon the traditional image of the state. Indiana's quarter sucks however. They put a fricken auto race on it. There has to be more to that state than 1 damn event a year.

Ummm the Texas quarters have not come out. They arent slated to come out until May/June. There are no first run Texas quarters. The whole recall thing is a joke. It dates back to April 2003, over year before the Texas quarter was to be released.

"WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Hang on to any of the new State of Texas quarters. If you have them, they may be worth much more than 25 cents.
The U.S. Treasury announced today that it is recalling all of the Texas quarters that are part of its program featuring quarters from each state. "We are recalling all the new Texas quarters that were recently issued," Treasury Undersecretary Jack Shackleford said Monday. "This action is being taken after numerous reports that new quarters will not work in parking meters, toll booths, vending machines, pay phones, or other coin-operated devices."

The quarters were issued in the order in which the various states joined the U.S. and have been a tremendous success among coin collectors worldwide.

"The problem lies in the unique design of the Texas quarter, which was created by a Texas A&M graduate," Shackleford said. "Apparently, the duct tape holding the two dimes and the nickel together keeps jamming the coin operated devices."
