What is the worst pain you've ever endured?

[Inspired by the kidney stone thread]

Luckily I haven't been subjected to crazy stuff. Back in HS, I passed out from a punk throwing a fist-sized rock at the back of my head as hard as he could. I instantly passed out, split my head open, & EMS rushed me and got 8 staples on it.

On a pain scale, it wasn't painful at all. Maybe lack of pain receptors at your head? The kid went to juvie for attempted murder though.

The worst pain I've had is.... a plain severe case of food poisoning in college. Holy shit, the sky was turning yellow because it was so painful and I couldn't even breathe. That fucking beats anything to date... even circumcision I had when I was 10. (fully remember the procedure and pain for 2 weeks).

What's yours?

Had my sternum broken in a few places. That was fun especially the attempting to breathe part.

I've been really lucky on Pain thus far. Had a compound fracture of my fifth metatarsal and had a tear in my MCL. Both hurt but wasn't anything horrible. Didn't even take opiates.

I felt like death my freshman year of College for a week. Probably had something nasty then. Lucky didn't turn into Meningitis or anything like that. Probably the sickest I had ever been. Suffered through that one too.

Probably when I had some weird allergic reaction compounded by taking Advil which I'm also apparently allergic to or something.

This is going to sound lame but my whole body got incredibly sore, like an 8/10, and I could hardly breathe at all for several hours. And the doctors were too retarded to know what the issue was.

Only other thing really was my concussion. I've never even broken a bone or anything.

Injured my back while having a seizure, must have pulled / ripped something as I could not get out of the recliner in a certain position for a week.

Had a 6' toothpick thing jabbed into my heel so that only one inch was showing (yeah, pretty sure it went straight into the bone). The worst part wasn't necessarily having it go in, rather, it was my mom pulling it out with a pair of flat nose pliers. She didn't get it the first time (in fact, she tried a total of 4 times.) When she finally got it out, it continued to hurt like she was still pulling. I was screaming "STOP PULLING MOM, PLEASE STOP PULLING!".

Yep, Don't think I'll ever forget that.

Pilonidal Cyst

Huge pain in the ass (literally)

They are pretty horrible. Even worse is draining them. Like abscesses they smell like death.

And in order to get rid of them you have to open them and let them heal by secondary intent.
For you lay people that means leaving them open to fill in slowly over time with scar tissue. Also means that usually daily you have to remove the packing and repack and redress the wound. For a month ... at least.

Eek, that sounds bad. But it seems rather fast and quick. Seriously, a mind-raping food poisoning can top that easily. Gives me shivers just thinking about it.

Motorcross accident came down full force on my left leg after my boot slipped off the peg mid jump..
destroyed left ankle to the point 2 12 hour surgeries had to be done.
all titanium now.
the pain after the surgeries was mind blowing.. and the 2 weeks from the surgery to the point they could put a hard cast on it was excruciating.

I've been seriously ill, had a broken an arm, and had my thumb smashed in a car door, none really comes close when it comes to intensity of pain. The pain didn't end with the toothpick thing coming out. It was a good week before I could put any pressure on my heel (even putting pressure on the ball of my foot hurt) and a good month before the pain entered "background" pain status.

I had a strep infection that moved into my gums. I never understood pain in quite that way until then. My gums were so swollen they swelled over covering my molars and bled everywhere for 2 weeks, infection somehow moved into my tongue and swelled that up as well, canker sores throughout my mouth and tongue. Was using a bottle of ambisol every day, soup every meal, Neocitron to help sleep.

Crushing my hand with a log splitter. Thought they would have to amputate my index finger. One of the bones was in eight or nine pieces. They pinned it back to together. The finger doesn't work well so it's just for show and counting to ten.

Abscessed tooth, the ache and pressure was bad enough even with high doses of ibuprofen that I was considering taking a pair of pliers to it to make it stop. Compared to that, the root canal was nothing.

Exposing my previously air soft gun shot eye to light, before the eye drops. Good thing there was no permanent damage..

The migraines I had after sinus surgery (this was well after I got over the pain from having my sinuses gutted). ENT said my normal migraines were probably were made worse by air hitting new parts in my sinuses or something. A few weeks of pain to the point I was delirious and seeing stars on occasion.
