When I was 5 or so I opened up a bottle of Sprite to find that the cap said "You Win a Jeep!" I was excited, so was my babysitter, until we checked the rules on the back, which said the contest had ended 3 days ago. Stupid us, we threw out the cap and bottle whole. Later we found out we'd read the rules incorrectly, and there's a good chance my folks could have gotten the Jeep. Kicked myself over that one for years.

And no, the babysitter didn't mysteriously wind up with a brand new Jeep a few weeks later.

1. quit engineering in my senior year of college... should have gotten the degree even if I didn't want to be an engineer.

2. Used lendingtree.com to find a lender... of the 3 they gave us, we chose the one in this state. Still contemplating legal action... lost out on our dream home as a result of his incompetence and lies.

We had a bad experience with lendingtree too. Problem with them is that they only allow you to rate/comment on a lender after you complete a deal. If the deal goes to sh!t due to their incompetence, you can't rate them. Ours was so bad that the lender didn't bother to fight it when we contested the credit card charge for the loan origination. We won, but nearly lost our place in the process (had to scramble to find a new lender at the last minute.)
