Ok, if anyone said Trance, I hate you.

PM me, and I'll give you a tune or two that will DEFINITELY change your mind.

And my contribution to the thread:
Rap/Hippity-Hop

Yeah...thats why I said thug rap..etc..the sh!t MTV plays for the most part. It is what I consider pop-rap..but I enjoy hip-hop.

Rap.

Interestingly, I am an avid country listener. I see country is drawing a lot of ire here. I suspect most of it is towards the mainstream country being produced lately. Quoting Red Dawn: "Country Music of the last 30 or so years sucks IMO. Give me some Marty Robbins and old Merle Haggard any day."

Other names from classic country that are worth listening to (IMO :p ) would be Bobby Bare, Roy Drusky, Don Williams, John Conlee, George Jones, Gene Autry (ok, so I like a few of the "antiques" :p ), Johnny Cash, etc.

Of course, this taste is coming from someone that also likes The Mamas and the Papas, John Denver, Peter Paul & Mary, the Beatles, Jim Croce, the Dead, CSNY, Byrds, Dylan, Neil Diamond, etc... So my tastes aren't exactly mainstream for the modern teen.

People refuse to like country music because it has a negative stereotype, and they're afraid that once they start listening to the good artists, they'll find out that it's so much better than most other music these days.

Hmmmmm, this thread is making me think. I can't say rap, because while I am not a fan at all, I can tolerate most of it, and there are even a few songs I actually like. I love country (and to anyone who thinks that a country fan doesn't know good music, I also listen to progressive rock (Rush, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation), classic rock (GnR, ACDC, LedZep), oldies (Beatles), classical, metal, polka, klezmer, pop (a few songs), jazz... Surely there must be something in there that counts as real music.) I generally dislike any type of "Electronica" music (techno, trance, etc) but again, I have heard a few songs which were pretty cool. Still, by and large, I dislike electronic music the most.

BTW, pacmanfan, you have good taste in music. We have very similar tastes, only I'm 20 :p

Hip hop is one of my favorite genres, but I can't stand bling rap or dumb-a$$ gangsta rap. Groups like the Roots, Black Eyed Peas, Jurrasic5, and others actually play real instruments instead of using synthesizers to make their music, and I think they deserve credit for their talent.
hip hop is very tolerable and is great for dancing. Rap on the other hand can get to the point where they create rhymes that make absolutely no sense or had nothing to do with what they were rapping about just before it. Of course not ALL rap is bad - you can easily tell the good rappers from the bad ones. The ones who do it for art vs. the ones who do it for money.

Well ... since the best genre Contains the following: Blast beats, Distortion, Aggression, Growling, Grinding, and Finger tapping .... the worst genre is the one with the least of these elements.

Therefore, pop is the worst.

I'll cast my vote for Rap...or Gangsta Rap...or Hip-Hop. Whichever term you prefer to use. Espacially those who just live to be annoying and controversial. It's what fuels them and the media. (ie: Kid Rock (aka: poser) and Eminem (aka: poser #2). Nothing but a crock of (insert apropriate cuss word here) if you ask me. But as always, that's just my opinion.

:)

pop, and modern pop rock ( modest mouse, interpol Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson) - how can people listen to this junk

Sorry, but Modest Mouse (with the exception of the new album) is better than 95% of music around now adays. Interpol's first album was pretty good also. Not original mind you, but alot better than most.
Sorry but modest mouse, if it was the only music in the world, would encourage me to stab my ears in with a sledge hammer and screw driver. Using the word 'grating' to describe the lead singer's voice is far too kind. That aside, their few good songs are sandwhiched between filthy sh*t songs, but I suppose some people might call those "unique" songs good. I call them pathetic and offensive to good taste.

I'm basing that on their last album. I'd never heard of these clowns before that, so if their previous music is better (impossible if that lead singer was singing then), then I withdraw my criticism of their pre "good news for people who hate this music" album.

Skoorb, I will give you that Isaac's voice can be abit bothersome, but since I like the music well enough I can overlook it. Honestly give Lonesome Crowded West a try. Their new album is a 360 degree change from their old stuff.

I was quite surprised to find the modest mouse and equally surprised to find interpol in a list of bad music)
I have their older album moon & antarctica, and while I don't like the guys voice too much, the music is good and modest mouse is/was well respected for their history in the indie rock scene. Only recently, probably by fluke, have they been put out into the mainstream. Even they themselves admit that they never thought something like this would happen.

Interpol is GOOD music, while they obviously are not JOY DIVISION, I would never put them in a list of bad music.

All genres are good in my book

Rap/Trance/Hardcore/House/HipHop/Soul/R&B/Country/Jazz

The inventors/artists/fans of these genres should all be assraped by elephants.

Edit: Was surpressing the memory of ever hearing that crap so hard I almost forgot Jazz.

Country / Rap Fusion, if it exists. Otherwise, probably Christian Rap, followed closely by Gangsta Rap.
