age 16 or so, i was racing my moutain bike down a mountain(street road) and i was going too fast and couldnt make the turn. i hit the rail and flip over the railing with my bike. i was so luckly i landed on my butt just a feet away from the cliff. i inspected my bike and everything was ok. i was so scared to get back on, but i knew if i didnt, i would always be fearful, so i got back on and road even faster down the hill.

Damn. Why didn't that dude stop? I'm sure he was being timed or whatever but that's more important than not totally blasting a girl walking in front of you?

he was looking at the ground... then looked up at the last second. hilarious, though :)

I used to get sort of mesmerized watching the water break over the edge of my wakeboard and looking at the bottom of the lake while i was riding. well...i wasn't paying attention and i ran into a swim raft at 20mph. It was a somewhat glancing collision, so the only damage was to my ego and my board. :D

About 8 years old, I was trying to see how many backflips in a row I could do on the trampoline.
After 10 or 12, I got dizzy, and landed upside down on the back of my head. My chin hit my sternum and cracked it down the middle.

Not much the doctors could do but tell me to take it easy.
I couldn't lift my arms above horizontal for a few months, and couldn't hang from a bar for a year.

2 come to mind.

the first happened recently, i fell off my bike, tore a ligament in my thumb trying to brace myself for the impact.

the other happened in high school, i was playing on the roof of my house, trying to jump down onto a wall, i missed the wall with my feet and instead caught it with my chin.

i was too afraid to tell my parents, it actually knocked teeth loose (the only way they stayed in place was because i had braces at the time), my chin had split open, i really just bandaged it up and never told them, just told them i fell.

still have the scar to this day

A little over 20 years ago I fell over a porch railing that was about 6' high. I landed weird and became paralized from the chest down with a T3 spinal cord injury.

When i was freshman in high school i was out rideing my bike (i love to ride. would ride all day if i could). well i came ot a red light. i stoped. it turned green and started across.

well a idiotic kid in a car blew the red light. he hit me (and another car). i flew up and smashed my head into the windshield then fliped up on the roof. the then hit another car and i flew off.

i landed on the side of t he road (gravel) and slid for another 10-15 feet.

had the fire department and ambulance show up. they cut my sweat pants off me (in a crowd of people) and loaded me into the ambulance. In the ambulance there was a new guy in training. he tried 5 times to get the IV in before his partner did it (in one).

get to the hospital into the room (father was there by the time we were). well they look at my right leg and but cheeck. both of wich were bloody. they start picking gravel out of my ass with treezers.

if that was n ot bad enough my back was so screwed up i missed almost all of my freshman year in school.
oh and to top it off! tghe fvcking kid did NOT HAVE INSURANCE. though we did win a big sum that i blew on a new bike and a car heh

In a college soccer game my freshman year, I was at a full sprint one-on-one with the golie. He dropped early to take me out but I managed to reach and toe the ball through his legs to score (nutmeg ftw). Unfortunately I shattered my tibia and fibula in the process and went head-over-heals flying through the air front flip style. Full-leg cast for 4 months followed by walking cast for 2.

Amazingly enough, I wasn't nearly as indestructable as I previously thought! :)

I was going down a hill in front of the house and flipped over the handle bars....thank goodness for helmets! I had huge scraps on my entire body that took forever to heal!

I've been skiing out west for years with my family and no one has gotten injured (knocks on wood)

Damn, I've got a tame life. My worst fall was on a wet concrete floor when the basement flooded about 2 years ago. Fell flat on my back, and my reflexes never kicked in, so I didn't even try to break the fall. I smacked my toe into a chair so hard that it went numb, and my neck seems to have permanently lost some range of motion. Moving my neck too far, even to this day, still causes headaches.

When I was 18, three of my friends and myself dared each other to take a toboggan off the ski jump. I was in front and my three friends behind. About half way down, my friends chickened out and rolled off. I went sailing right along, left the lip of the jump looking good.........and then the wind caught the back of the toboggan because all the weight was in the front and now the toboggan is vertical with me hanging on the front. Thats the way I hit about 40 feet out snapping the toboggan in half and knocking the wind out of me. They all come running down to see if I'm dead and I managed to croak out, "When I get my breath back, I'm going to kick the shnit out of you."

I wonder if there's a Guiness record for toboggan jumping?

Got clipped by an Explorer while I was riding the road bike.

Got some nice road rash on the hands and wrists and lost about 1/4" of my chin.

SOB didn't even slow down to see if I was okay.

EDIT: I split my lip open, and I still have the scar.

That's pretty much exactly what I did. I was trying to hurry to get home because I rode my bike farther than I was supposed to, ramped off of about a 3 foot drop off, blacked out in midair, went over the handlebars when I landed, bike landed on top of me. No major injuries, but I have a nice scar on my forehead now.

Another incident was when I tried to ride a wheelie on the same bike, came down into a large crack in the sidewalk and went over the handlebars. Six stitches in the lip and a lump of scar tissue for that one.

If you mean in terms of injury-
When I was about 6-7, I was sleeping on my top bunk. Rolled over the ~1 ft guard rail and fell the 6 feet down and smashed my thumb on the concrete floor (we didnt have the carput put in yet). Thumb was broken.

If you mean in terms of humiliation-
Just this Monday, oh boy... Every year the gym classes at our school go bowling for a week. It was our week. So, I'm bowling right? I'm doing pretty ****** but I'm having fun. Our asshat of a gym teacher tells us we need to start getting ready. Its ok, we had just finished our game. So I switch back to my shoes, classic Adidas-white with three black stripes, and my bowling partner tells me I have one more frame left. So I get up there right, and I start going. Plant my final foot, and it simply sticks, no sliding whatsover. My other leg is already sliding on the toe around the back, and all my momentum is heading foward. I fall flat on my face, and slid probably 5 feet on that oily as hell alley. *Sigh*

Twice while snowboarding. 1st time my lead edge caught the nasty stuff on the edge of a kicker and I supermaned for a bout 30 ft or so down the run. I knew I was going to die. It was such a wierd feling. I tucked up and tried to flip over forward and landed on the back of my head and shoulders. The 2nd time I was at the bottom of the half pipe and managed to kick myself away from the lip. That fall was about 20 ft straight down on the the hard pack (read, ice. SE MI half pipes suck). My head hit and then my shoulders. I remember my knees hurting really bad where they smacked the ice right on each side of my head. Once again, the wierd "I'm dying right now" feeling.

I've fallen farther, but the worst was off a measly 8 foot 4 legged ladder that kicked out from under me on dirt. It fell down and I fell across it right at the bottom of the ribcage on my side.:(
