What is the worst console game you have played recently?

For me, it has to be Two Worlds.

Holy hell this game is bad. I even went in with low expectations, being it got such terrible user reviews. I figured I liked the genera so I would give it a shot. I pretty much knew from when I put the disc in it was going to be bad. The opening music made me want to punch the elderly.. It like some sick mixture of opera and fail. Then you move on to character selection, but the graphics are so bad you cant really discern a difference to the changes you are making. It looks like a passable PS1 game.

Once the game starts, you are smacked in the face with the voice acting/dialoge... It has to be easily the worst I have ever seen/heard. It is physically painful to watch/ listen to. Picture a group of heavily medicated people with down syndrome larping -> there you have the TW dialog. I couldn't even make eye contact with the (fictional) characters without getting douche chills.

Overall, I only have about 30-45 min in total. I got to experience the first town.. Got started on my first quest ( which was bugged, and couldn't complete). Not to mention the lack of immersion from having to skip all of the story building cut scenes. I think I am done with it.

The positive reviews say " give it a couple hours", but I don't think I can bear it. The only good thing that could possibly happen is for there to be a different game on the second half of the disc. The devs come out and say, " haha just kidding that wasn't the real game"

It just got me thinking I haven't played a game this bad since before the internet/review/game rental days. You know back then you would drop 50 on a game, come home, pop in in, and just get that sick feeling in your stomach. I mean, there are still crummy games out there (quite a few on the wii come to mind), but they are more "meh", than "RRRREETTTCHHH".. I think we have been spoiled the past several years. Two worlds, thank you for reminding me of how bad it can be.

I know I'm going against the grain here, but I'm going to say Metroid Prime 3.

For me it just did not work at all control wise. I was just very unimpressed with the game especially having such high expecations, and I was just severely disappointed with it.

I haven't really played too much w/in the past few months though.

If demos count, Beautiful Katamari was a huge pile (ball?) of sticking poo. I haven't played the full game, but the demo gave me more than I could handle. The "music" made me want to also punch the elderly, like your experience with the Two Worlds opening music. I just cannot understand how this game got all those accolades for being good.

It's not very recent but I have to say FFIII for the DS. I got it since I am a FF and RPG fan, but the game is just horrible. Uninspiring and repetitive music, banal characters, and hideous job system did it for me. I forced myself to play three hours but the game was too lame to keep my interest. That said, I am looking forward to FFIV remake.

Beautiful Katamari demo sucked... Wing Island was bad, but I expected that.

I have played A LOT of games, stemming back into the NES days so I can't really recall those games. But recently, I played Diner Dash for the DS and OMG, it has to be the crappiest game in existence. Repetitive and only provided me 10 seconds of entertainment. Half of those 5 seconds were from preliminary excitement because I never touched the game before and the rest was from shutting the console off.

Hmm... Lately? I'm not sure... I remember that X3: The Official Game From The Movie was particularly terrible.

Katamari just isn't for you then... it appeals more to a specific group of weird people :p. Personally, I like playing the games. They don't try to be all out awesome and have some great point to them, the idea is to follow the specific objective and roll shit up according to that. The demo shows nothing that the actual game provides and is more like a teaser saying, "Hai lewk, Katamari on 360!" The real Katamari has sizes or amounts that you have to reach... puzzles like getting your katamari to a certain temperature, which means you can't pick up cold things or else you'll begin to cool down, etc.

Try Katamari Damacy or We Love Katamari if you want a taste. Hell, Beautiful Katamari is only $40 brand new.

Uhh worst game? I'm not sure.

Two worlds = gothic 3 without any of the good

I tried to play that demo where its like a British version of Dynasty warriors made by the same people. I kicked myself for wasting bandwidth.

As for Katamari Damacy, I loved that game but I felt that one time was more than enough and it didn't need any sort of sequel. I didnt bother trying the new demo. Too many other games to play for a rehash of a game I played on the PS2 :)

Worst demo I've played recently....the Wipeout clone (can't remember the name).

Worst full game I've played recently....Ratatouille (should have expected a bad movie tie-in but it was for my son).

I downloaded that on the PSN since I was running out of 360 space (too many demos :Q!) It was soooo boring. The thing is, Koei took a mix of Dynasty Warriors (action/fighting) and Romance of the Three Kingdoms (strategy) and put Frenchies in it? Who wants to actual play as the French? :p

Another vote for Two Worlds, what a steaming pile of shit that game was. I lasted less than 1 hour and couldn't put up with the shitty controls and the way the graphics made me want to puke. It's hard to explain but i guess it's called 'tearing' or something like it where the graphics just kept flickering.

And the only thing good about the voice acting is that it was so bad it gave me a few laughs :p

I also thought spiderman 3 sucked horribly....

here's what I originally posted about it a while back:

this game is trying so hard to be like Oblivion, but fails miserably.

Voice acting is terrible, and most of the things they say either make me laugh (They talk about the Taint) or think "WTF".

The game is choppy as hell. When running out in the open it either pauses to load or is jerky. It almost gives me a headache just running around.

Riding a horse is a nightmare. Hard as hell to control, or maybe I just haven't mastered it yet.

The menus suck. It's hard to figure out what anything is, and it's frustrating navigating through inventory.

fighting sucks, also. I get attacked by 3 Grom's and I can't wait until they all finally die because the fighting is so damn boring.

Worst Demo: Dynasty Warriors: Gundam.
I already knew the game wasn't going to be good, but I figured I would give it a shot.

Worst Full Game: Super Paper Mario and Twilight Princess
Super Paper Mario ran out of steam way to early for me, and Twilight Princess was a bit of a bore (I liked Phantom Hourglass better). However, I have to put this in perspective. The only games I've played recently are great games (Halo 3, Bioshock, GoW, Orange Box, MP3, Persona 3, etc), so Super Paper Mario and Twilight Princess just happen to fall at the bottom of this list. They aren't horrible games, but they are the worst I have played recently.

Believe it or not, that game is actually pretty fun, but it's most certainly a lot better if you actually like Gundam and compare it to the very mediocre Gundam titles that exist for next gen titles (there is a decent title or two for past consoles). Most reviewers didn't know crap about this game. I read IGN's review and they made a remark like "you never use jump." Just reading that clued me in that they barely played the game. Hell, Gundam Wing, Gundam Zeta, Gundam Double Zeta and Gundam Epyon can all turn into "jets" if you press jump then dash and fly much faster than normal walking or dashing. Not even realizing this shows the ineptitude of these reviewers.

I agree the job system is terrible. I think the whole pace of the game is off, there's just too much grinding (even for a FF title).

Far Cry on the Wii was terrible. The graphics made Doom on my old 486 look good, and the controls were horrendous.

There was a demo of some kind on the 360...think it was for a FPS where you had certain powers (played with a bunch of bots)...that was terrible. Last terrible console game I've bought was Brute Force for the original XBox. God that thing sucked some donkey butt.

Was it just me, or did he have a random lisp? Every once in a while he would lisp a word.

I think this game would be a lot more fun if it was just straight up Dynasty Warriors. The weird mix of action and RTS is awkward. I just want to run around and button-mash hordes of British/French. Leave the squad-based command nonsense to the real strategy games.

Also, Monster Madness is probably the worst demo I've played recently - I almost said Conan but Monster Madness was just flat out awful. The controls and gameplay were horrible; and it's too bad as I was hoping for a next-gen Zombies Ate My Neighbors.

Twisted Metal: Black. Not a new game, I know, but I bought it for dirt cheap at a Gamestop. I had enjoyed the original back in the mid-90s, so I wanted to give it a shot. I just didn't like it. The developers seemed to have "upped the ante" by making every vehicle incredibly (ridiculously?) fast. The pace of the original game was nowhere to be seen, and I shelved it after a few plays.
