An excuse for the military industrial complex to spend $400 billion per year to fight invisible enemies (terrorists) as well as fight off vicious allies of evil (also terrorists).

It's like the Cold War, only more expensive. And as winnable as the Vietnam War.

A misnomer. It is shorthand by the media and by politicians and it is misleading to the public. The ?war? should be less NEBULAR and more define. TERROR is a MECHANISM to achieving a goal, not the end result. We should be at war against TERRORISTS and those identifiable, groups or organization that means to do the US harm i.e. WAR against Al Qaeda. I find it ironic that everything can now be lumped into something as vague as terrorism i.e. domestic workplace shootings, anthrax, unibomber, narco-terrorism, cyber-terrorism, etc.

GWB has said that the war against terrorism is a long term war. It is by that definition, a neverending war. I think we should define war by the enemies (al qaeda) not a mechanism.

The war on terror from my perspective is a war to protect the way of
life i have become accustomed to.

The way of life I have been educated into.

The way of life that I believe
is the best way.

The only way of life I know, and
as such, the correct way.

If I were an islamic fundamentalist
my answere would be exactly the same.

That being said would make the war on
terror a religious war.

Now, which side do i want to align with?

I choose the side which generally lets
me be myself.

I have no desire to join the Islamic faith.

Where are we going with this?

Aren't you sort of ignoring the 3000 dead from 9/11?

How about the 600 dead in Spain.

They don't seem all that "invisible" to me.

But that's not related to the use of terror as a weapon, or the practice of asymmetric warfare. These are tactics which have been used for centuries.

A war on those people who hate us for our success, lifestyle and culture. They hate everything about us, and are hell bent in destroying it.

Are you trying to say that 9/11 was not a terrorist attack?

They are invisible in the fact that they are among us and cannot be discerned from the general population. The only way to sort them out is to suspend all constitutional rights. Glad Ashcroft is up to the job.

Remember kids, downloading MP3s is terrorism.
The teacher's union is a terrorist organization.
This brought to you by the one, the only Adminstration.

I'd really like an answer to my question. It may just help clear up for me whereyour viewpoints are coming from in the many threads you comment on.

So please answer this question.

Are you trying to say that 9/11 was not a terrorist attack?

i think the real reason we even have a war on terrorism roots back to the cold war. the US and SU basically used these middle east countries as puppets to stur up the war between US and SU and when the war was over, both countries left the middle east in mumbo jumbo. wouldn't you be pissed? i'm not saying what they're doing are right. But imagine if you had a "friend" that just used you for your status and/resources and then abandoned you when he was done...
