I was told to take off as much time as a I need. The way I feel now, I wouldn't go back for a month - I know that isn't going to fly though. . . 3 days? 5 Days? They told me to take as much time as I need, though I know there is a limit. I really just don't want to do anything right now.

If they said take as much time as you need, I wouldn't feel bad taking a week.

Take a week off if you can. Might as well. Can't see you being very productive in your emotional state. Though working might take your mind off things.

3 days paid. Beyond that you're using your PTO...at least that's how it works at all the companies I've worked for.

Sorry to hear of your loss... :(

A lot of HR's have written policies for this. Maybe check it out?

And sorry for your loss...

It's 3 days at my company.

3 days bereavement. As long as you need to get your head together at mine.

edit:

Very sorry to hear of your loss. Don't be afraid to talk about it. It really does help to air it out.

Its usually 3-5 days. But some places will allow you to take longer, but it will be unpaid, or use of vacation/sick time.

They give us a week, but many people have taken more time out of their leave and I understand why. The bosses never seem to mind.

No, his mom.

ah, understood. when my mom died, i had just started my job and had no leave accrued, i had to take leave without pay. but it was damn worth it, there are more important things in life than work.

my condolences.
