what is the typical admit rate for graduate programs? (for technical related degrees)

I'm looking at graduate school and the average admit rate for every year has been 20%

I'm thinking that's really bad and my chances of getting in are pretty slim 🙁

I'm looking for a website that lists the admit rates for schools and its graduate program if it exists

thanks

Well, that's for the average applicant...how does your stuff compare to the average acceptant?

[Edit] I'm sure I totally misused the the word acceptant

Depends entirely on the program and school. Unless you have something really bad like a 2.5 gpa, you shouldn't feel discouraged from trying to apply.

there's no info on the accepted applicants (no listing of avg gpa, gre or anything)
just a 20% admit rate and that's a discouraging figure
so it 600 people applied, only about 120 gets in

Try looking at the US News magazine for best graduate schools. I think they have average numbers for most colleges in the back. Whatever you do though, don't try to get someone in a position of authority at the school to give you a gauging of your likelihood to get in. They really get upset by that. Some professors will go out of their way to be sure you don't get in if you do that.

20% is pretty good, i think. mine was around 11%. i don't think you can really look at a "typical" admit rate because they differ depending on the program and field so much, and because it really depends on how you are relative to the other applicants. it's not like it's a lottery system 😛
