That's Cook County, not City of Chicago

People that are not on location should just STFU

Well, is the Sears Tower on location? I think it is. Last I checked it was still there on Wacker Drive when I looked on Google Earth. So let's see, that's 60606 zip code and survey says:

But let's take a good side long glance at what I posted previously, directly quoted from the Chicago Tribune.

As a result of the reduction in Cook County's portion of the sales tax, the overall sales tax rate in Chicago will drop from 10.25 percent to 9.75 percent, reducing the cost of a $1,000 purchase by $5.

Hmmmm... Ok... I see the words Cook County... but wait... hold on a second...

I'm getting something here...

Almost there..

You know Dave, it's almost like a respected Chicago newspaper is stating that the overall tax in CHICAGO went from 10.25% to 9.75%.

It's ok, I can see why you could get confused by this.

Isn't Illinois one of those states that don't charge tax on food? It was like that 2 years ago when I was there.

They do charge it on food, but it's one of those weird laws where it depends on if you are dine in and stuff but it is stipulated by the municipality/county. Chicago has a 1% tax on food in certain areas that fall under the MPEA plus there is a 0.25% restaurant tax if I recall correctly. So if you ate at a restaurant, you could at one time have been charged as high as 11.5% but the base rate has fallen 0.5% since then.

especially with internet ordering and the invention of the automobile. :p

most large online stores charge ny sales tax, and if they don't, you are supposed to keep the receipts and pay it when you file your state tax returns :(
