I thought you guys added your own tax on top of the state?
That's why I'm confused. Is the rep idiot? But then he must deal with sales tax all day.
you think that's high~ parking tax is insane!
is your car not registered in NYC? mine isn't so I have to pay that damn 18.75% but I think you can get it waived if the car is registered to an NYC address.
NY, the land of many taxes. I believe that's correct for NYC.
Well, what's your property tax rate? It doesn't get much lower than NYC (especially considering the sheer number and quality of services provided), so sales tax being a few % higher is generally insignificant, especially with internet ordering and the invention of the automobile.![]()
i live in jersey![]()
When I buy an electronic gadget? Googling shows 8.75~%, but the store rep told me 12%.
That's peanuts, 13.5% in Chicago
The city of Chicago previously had the highest total sales tax of all major U.S. cities (10.25%), which was a major reference point until the rate was decreased to 9.75% as of July 1, 2010.[not in citation given][73] It is also one of the most complex. 9.75% is levied on all non-perishable goods purchased, while 2% is levied on qualifying food, drugs, medicines and medical appliances.[not in citation given] [73] The Illinois Department of Revenue collects a 3% Chicago Soft Drink Tax and a 1% Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA) "Food and Beverage Tax", on prepared food and beverage purchases in the downtown area (These "downtown" boundaries are: Surf Street on the north, Ashland Avenue on the west, Stevenson Expressway (I-55) on the south, & Lake Michigan on the east. Furthermore, O'Hare and Midway airports also fall under the 1% MPEA tax district).[74] In addition, the Chicago Department of Revenue collects additional sales taxes on items such as fountain drinks, bottled water, liquor, and cigarettes.[75]

I'll just leave this here and try to get out without stepping in all the bullshit.
Are you here?
Thought not
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/...100630_1_sales-tax-cook-county-board-tax-rateAs a result of the reduction in Cook County's portion of the sales tax, the overall sales tax rate in Chicago will drop from 10.25 percent to 9.75 percent, reducing the cost of a $1,000 purchase by $5.
