Im just curious... I bought a TBird over the weekend, and I'm curious.

I'm running at about 40c... of course, I'm not overclocking....

Well it's only an approximation since the sensor is not inside the carrier . . . but my 1 GHz T-Bird (Slot A) is currently running at 31 C. The ambient temp inside the case is is 75 F . . . pretty cool. I keep a cool room! <G>

Must state the following:

Mb and Bios REvision
Thermistor Placement
CPU Type
Ambient Case temp

For any reasonable comparison to be done... Even then wtih socket-a tmep issues this is very iffy.

Asus K7V Bios rev - 1007
The is thermistor on the back of the athlon cartridge. The actual temp is problebly much higher.
AMD Athlon Classic 700MHz
Case temp - 30C/86F
CPU temp - 32C/89F

Is the back of the cartridge the best place to put the thermistor? I would rather not crack open the cartridge.

I ordered my Swiftech MC370-0A, about a month ago, I'm still waiting for it... I had to buy a generic heat sync, with Artic Silver until then...

Under load, my temp gets upto 46c,

Im using the Abit Kt7-Raid Bios revision WW, the sensor is under the CPU..

Oops, forgot to post mine

Asus CUSL2, 1005 Beta7 Bios.
Ambient Case temp 24C
CPU Calibrated Diode Temp of 40C.

Keep in mind that temps of any type, even p3, are solely for reference... Do not be owrried if your temps are higher, especialy if you have a different MB.

Spook, 40c is very cool for a "Socketed" tbird! Those other guys are running SLOT athlons which I believe don't report an accurate temp.

I have a $50 Hedgehog Copper HS and mine runs at 40-44. I wouldn't worry about 40 man.. no way.

Yeah definitely don't worry. What are you clocked at Spook? When I leave my 1.1 at 1.1, it hovers around 38-42.

I'm clocked at 1.2G... But its a 1.2G processor... I've lost the Overclocking bug at this point... If I can't overclock more than 20% it really isn't worth it anymore...

Yeah I thought I lost it too, but this 1.2gh thing was taunting me because I couldn't get a 1.2ghz retail cpu so I pushed it a little.
Had to make sure Johnny Mosel's PC143 worked too. hehe

AMD Athlon Socket 462 1000 MHz at 1202 MHz. (12x100) 1,908 mV. 26,450 mdC (idle ACPI) 42,445 mdC (stressed). Temperatures measured on die.

Cheers!

Spook, check your CPU voltage with a program or in the BIOS.

I was setting my cpu back down to 1.75...or so I thought...
I noticed the BIOS was reporting 1.81 though. The board was giving .06v extra.
So I set it to 1.70 manually, now it's reporting 1.75-6v.

Let's see how much cooler it runs 1.1ghz at 1.75v now :)

edit:

40.9C peak (RC5 running)

Whitedog,

Slot Athlons, with properly placed thermistors are muhc better temp readers than SOcket-Athlons.

i have REALLY bad case cooling and I didn't follow the directions when applying the thermal paste and messed it all up :)

I need to find out from you guys how do you measure the temperature. I only know how to do it at CMOS. I downloaded a program from somewhere, and measure 0oC. Help! Thanks.

Taisol heatsink (came w/the chip and mobo)
T-bird 1ghz
No idea where the thermistor is on this board actually, heh

Ambient case temp of around 22C
CPU temp that stays between 38-40C

P3 866 averages out @ 36 degrees celsius at an ambient room temperature of 25 degrees.
