I was wondering what is the suggested/common setting for fan speed % ?

also, doesen't increased fan speed causes the fan to die faster ?

I run mine up to 75-80% when overclocked for gaming. Yeah, it's loud, but I've usually got headphones on or the speakers loud enough that the fan noise doesn't bother me.

I recommend setting up profiles in RivaTuner that can be activated by keystrokes. For 2D desktop use, I underclock the card and run the fan @ 30%, all by just pressing a few keys. When it's time to game, another keypress overclocks the card and bumps the fan up to 75%.

200% at over volting... :p

Kidding aside, as high as you can get it without it bothering you. 50%+ is good.

Auto here and I have the smaller fan, it's quiet/silent in my 900 with side panel fan

My fan speeds are set in RivaTuner as follows:

0-50C @ 40%
50-55C @ 50%
55-60C @ 65%
60-65C @ 80%
>65C @ 100%

Card idles at 48, I've never seen it over 62 under load

I don't care to set my fan quite as aggressively as Vrolok simply because it gets too noisy for me. I took a similar approach though and set up a fan profile in RivaTuner so that the fan is automatically adjusted for me based on stress.

I've seen alot of people set theirs 45%-47% to keep noise down but basically if you are concerned about noise 40%-50% is seems to be the common norm. Otherwise let her go as as she needs to.

Yeah, it really depends on how much noise you can tolerate. My card only heats up to the point where my fan gets noising when I'm gaming, and then the audio from the game is enough to drown out the fan noise. I also have a relatively noisy case with 3x120mm fans, 2x80mm fans, and 1xAntec Spot cooler fan so I don't even notice the GPU fan over the others until it hits around 55%.
