I firewalled my self out of a computer that I was using remote desktop on. Only after I was disconnected did I realize how stupid this was. (BTW this was early in the morning)

I think many of us have burned/copied .zip files over to a new machine without realizing you need WINZIP to un-do them onto the new machine in the first place... XP solved that with a native unzipper... but it happened quite a few times before it came along.

Left one too many motherboard mounting posts in the case... resting against the back of the MB...

Never seen blue flame shoot out of a MB before then...

About 5 years ago, I landed my first PC related job. Well, it wasnt very glamorous as all! I had to tear down computers and label *ALL* the parts and put them in a database. It was gruesome, but I got real familiar with all the systems componants and could disassemble machines like no other.

Anyways, one day I was working real fast (end of the month and trying to break a record). Well, one of the things we would do is test the machine and all its parts to see what was good and was a failed componant. Well, I ran the test, printed out the stats, and then began to dismember it. Once I popped the case the Videocard was the first thing to come out and after uncrewing it I yanked and *POOF* the thing sparked, popped, and burnt. Turns out I forgot to unplug the thing, lol!

Ah well....it was a mistake I've never repeated.

Working on my first 'pooter with the power plugged in. I touched the vid card, got a pretty good shock and the 'pooter started with my head and handds in there. I always make sure the power switch on the PSU is off from now on :p!

I replaced a cpu one day and forgot to put the hs on first before starting it up. I had just got it in the mail too not an hour before this happened. Needless to say, I had to take a trip to the local shop and purchase an overpriced one. Damn I was pissed.

Changing the fan on my old power supply--it was making too much noise, and it didn't push much air anyway. Got everything replaced, yadeeda. PSU sitting on top of the computer, I fire it up to make sure my fan works. Yay, it did. Hit shut down, putting the cover back over the PSU...fingers slip, hit the capacitors, ZAAAAAAAAAP.

Tried to install a distro of Linux. Had two drives, C: and D:. I wanted to clear C: to make space for Linux because I wasn't using it. Did so, but then remembered C: was the drive with the operating system on it...

I deleted 60+ gigs of movies, tv shows, and music videos, only half of which were backed up. I thought that I had a backup of the entire thing on another disk... I guess I should have checked and made sure the backup existed before deleting them :(

I also fvcked up on a ghost once, and ghosted a blank harddrive onto my OS drive.

Wired up some CCFLs to my fan controller, somehow reversed polarity. Blew out the lights and the voltage inverter, was kinda cool seeing the little plastic box explode.

I typed rm -r * when I was in my home directory on my school acount less than a month ago

I was trying to type: write (someone's user name) and then the rm -r * so that it looked like they typed it on their screen but I freaking typed /write instead and it gave me an error instead of writing anything to their screen. So it was at the bash prompt still and I fvcking typed rm -r *

Whew

Also, I unplugged a modem while my computer was on (still in windows). I thought plug and play meant hot swapping. The computer froze, good fun
