What is the strangest urban myth you've heard?

I have a neighbor who used to be an engineer for the military and even though he's older than I am by about 20 years we have a lot in common. Anyway one day we were having a long conversation about music and we get onto the subject of disco and he tells me that disco was actually an invention of the goverment. According to my neighbor it was supposed to be a trend to keep americans minds off of the conflicts during that time and onto other areas. So he's telling me this and I'm waiting for him to burst out laughing, but he's dead serious or at least pretending to be.

So what do you think urban myth or reality?

oh how I wish that was true, I'd have a 60" plasma TV by now

I had to explain to my sister that this was not true, and to never forward these types of emails, ever. *sigh*

I also had to explain to my sister that there was no missing kid who needed a kidney and that P&G or some other big company would not donate a nickel per name on the e-mail to any cause for any reason.
