What is the slowest graphics card that can run Doom III okay?

It's not even out yet - we really have no idea.... Even the E3 version that was leaked was totally unoptomized and ran like crap on pretty much all video cards from what I've heard. Once they've gone through and fixed everything up, I'm betting the GF3 will be bare minimum for halfway decent graphics. Probably GF4-4600/9700 level cards for maxxed out settings, plus whatever will be out by then...

Well given GtPrOjEcTX's definition of ok, I'd say that the Geforce FX might be able to play it ok, but definately nothing out there right now.

One benefit to being partially colorblind is that i can run games at 16bit and be ok with how it looks... :p

9700 PRO can just about do full on UT 2k3 (including AA and AF), so I doubt it'll be able to do full on Doom III which is supposed to look even better (and therefore probably will need more rendering power). The Geforce FX/Radeon 9900 (if it's released) might be able to do max detail though. The 9700 and Ti 4600 will be able to make it look very pretty though :)

wow, that's pessimistic if I've ever heard it. Why would someone put out a game if its not even going to look "okay" on anyone's machine.

It will look fine.

GeForce 8 with DirectX 666.0

P.S. I'll be pissed off if my Radeon 9700 Pro is not able to run it at least halfway decent.

I think he did say something like that, it would be playable only at 320*240 resolution with all the settings on low. I guess the bare minimum for that game would be a card from the GF4 series, maybe the Ti4200 to be able at least to play and not watch the slideshow.

I have a Geforce 4 ti4600. I've heard it might run Doom 3 at 320x200 at 16colors with everything turned off. :p

I'm just glad there will be a game that will test the limits, and not to mention justify those pricy graphics cards, of our rigs.
