Can someone recommend a good, solid Xenon mobo? I hear the intel ones are good.

You are looking for Xeon boards, not Xenon boards. :p

And you do you want 1, 2 or more cpus?

Two would be nice. :)

Hears what I would do ASUS has a board PC-DL OR Ncch-DL the second one is the fastest i mean these 2 are fast these are the first dual processor boards that outperform my PC these things are great gamers also . You can't go wrong with either I don't believe it my wife don't believe it but I looked at you and your girl man u look just likew me when I was 20. PC_DL is 266 also but NCCH_DL runs at DDR 400 or 800 FSB. as i stated before these are the fastest 2 cpu boards on the market yes even faster than AMD

Very nice. Is Tyan reputable in this area?

Also, I can get one CPU now and upgrade and simple add another right? Does this board require that both sockets be filled?

OK, ignore the PM note in the 'other' forum... ;)

I would think that the ASUS NCT-D would be the best one. You can even get a 1394B card to do Firewire 800 if it stirs your grits. :D I have the PC-DL and have 5 SATA and 1 EIDE drive in it (750GB of storage, I hope it is enough to finish my project! - When I create the 24 individual DVDs, I may run out!)

Drop a X800 PCIe in it and be all of the envy on the LE board. ;)

As a note, there are no single Xeon boards. I looked before.

Tyan is very well respected. They make mostly high end server/workstation boards with little frills for overclocking and such. Asus would be better if you want to to be able to overclock and play with settings.

When looking for solid that is about as good as it gets. SuperMicro is another good choice.

I forget if you were using the Pro version or not. You may want to check the USB chipset list for LE 6 as I did not.

Try to use sentences and coherent language perhaps. Dual opterons outperform xeons for some tasks, and vice versa.. there is no one size fits all solution.

Anyway, NCCH-DL for non-pci Express or maybe the previously suggested NCT-D if you want pci express. I'd really love to get the NCT-D with dual x800s but I have an agp 6800 ultra at the moment that would be very hard to get a replacement pci-e card for at this time. I had dual 2.4 xeons on a rambus i860 platform and they flew for general windows usage, gaming of course they underperformed on due to the lack of optomizations and the slow bus speed (400mhz for my prestonia setup). I'm looking at dual 1.6 xeons with a new stepping that should o/c oto 3.2 on water and an ncch-dl myself, after having used an A64 and finding it to multitask very poorly, even relaitve to an Intel platform.

Basically; what do you want to do with this setup? Depending on what you want the system for, you may want to look at alternative options. If it's going to be an actual server I would reccomend Tyan boards as others have, Intel boards will of course be solid as hell and also be well backed should you run into problems. They might even hold their value. I paid $450 for my Rambus Iwill dp400, and they sell for $150 now :( Oh well, gotta love technology!

Being bold and answering for Warcrow...

I have a PC-DL at 3.06. If I were going to get a gaming system, I would get a FX series AMD (53/55).

Well, I'm not getting Liquid Edition 6. I have 5.5, and am very very satisfied with it right now. I do not want a PCI-X board. only AGP please. I'm not interested in doing anything aggressive with timing, so everything will be running stock.

Thanks for the responses though, guys!

Aww... The Multi-Cam feature has already paid for my upgrade. 22 marching bands, 3 cameras, 6 tapes each - just find a synch point, mark the clip, tell it to create the sync, and then watch it and click the cam to use as you go. I think it saves me about 3-4 hours per band.

The PC-DL is nice, but it is 533MHz. There is an IWill 800 that may fit. I defer to the other posts for Tyan and SuperMicro recommendations.

It is just extended ATX meaning bigger.

inexpensive case that fits most E-ATX boards.

PCI-X is for good stuff like SCSI cards, PCIe is the graphics interface you are mistaking it for I think. If you don't think you will need PCI-X now or later and you want dual Opteron then you don't need a board with the 8131 and I would recommend the TYAN s2875ANRF in that price range.

Well, that is why I recommended the Tyan board that I did. I KNOW you just got an AGP8X 6800GT. I saw a post from you recently in the gaming forum where you mentioned it. Yes, that board is only DDR266 but it is still pretty sweet.

This ASUS PC-DL Deluxe supports DDR333 though if that helps at all. :)

I'm limited mainly because the software doesnt support PCI-E. The Tyan you linked looks like a really great board. I'm looking at these two board right now then:

http://www.newegg.com/app/view...amp;manufactory=BROWSE

http://www.newegg.com/app/view...amp;manufactory=BROWSE

Now, out of those two, which would you recommend, and why? I dont need SATA btw.

Question along the same lines: do most SMP Xeon boards have onboard VRMs or separate? I have an IBM Xseries Xeon box that requires a damned VRM module before I can install a second CPU.

What software are you using that does not support PCI-e? LE 5.5 does (it uses DirectX, which is interface neutral).
