I was about 13 with pneumonia. I didn't have a cough, so my parents didn't know why I had a fever. They gave me the usual treatment of blankets and fluids. When my dad checked it again it was 105 and they rushed me to the hospital. They hydrated me, took x-rays, and gave me some medicine.

I had appendicitis and an allergic reaction to my tetanus vaccine, twice.

I had a reaction to the tetanus vaccine as well and got hives all over. It sucked for about a day or two.

Probably the worst illness I had was last year, when I got a severe flu with 103.7° degree fever... I could barely sleep and felt like crap for almost a week. When I had chills they were so bad all my skin would break out into distinct goosebumps. When I was burning up I felt like I was going to die...

I don't know which one has been/was the most serious by ATOT standards...

I had Scarlet Fever when I was about 8...that was bad. I was sick for a couple of months.

lI've been through several bouts with pneumonia in my life. None of those were much fun, and the docs say I'll always be susceptible to it, so any cold can be problematic. (I always blamed it on getting badly gassed in an ammonia plant when I was working there...BAD ammonia leak, and I got caught in it.

I've had "another contagious disease" for nearly 40 years, but (fortunately) hasn't really caused any real problems, except that I can't donate blood, and my organs are considered unacceptable.

Forgot the time this past summer when I had what seemed like a Norwalk virus or something similar. Felt really awful for 3 or 4 days, listless, no energy, horrible stomach cramps, nausea but no vomiting, intestinal pain, diarrhoea, etc etc... The worst part of it all was how little energy I had I had trouble even walking some times.

random sickness: was getting ready for a career fair interview, in my last class for the day and went and got a drink from the vending machine (can't remember the name, vault maybe). about 15 minutes before class ended i start getting cold. i had eaten an apple a few hours before and that's the only thing i can attribute the following 4 hours to. i went home, was cold and shivering worse than ever before. got in a bath tub and turned in on full hot and soaked in it and was still shivering. finally the water got too cool and i got in bed and shook and puked for 3 hours. suddenly, it went away and i was fine. weird.

the other from alcohol: started drinking friday afternoon, passed out multiple times/woke up drinking again to forget a girlfriend, eventually woke up sunday morning sometime and puked for 24 hours straight. couldn't even swallow a sip of water without puking 1 second later. i was at the point where i would just hold water in my mouth to feel relief from the dehydration. stupid stupid stupid.

The worst headache of my life. It completely debilitated me for days; I just wanted to die and for it to be over. I have only faint memories of a doctors office and being taken straight from the Dr's office across a parking lot to the hospital, and immediately into the CAT scan machine (or MRI or something.)

Did they do a brain scan and find nothing? ;)

What was the diagnosis?

Never figured out for certain what it was. A lot of people were thinking meningitis. I barely remember anything about it (and it was only about 9 or 10 years ago.) The one thing that was discovered later is that my exhaust had split a weld at the top and was blowing straight up at the trunk. There was a hole in the trunk; the paint was burnt offand the felt layer was burnt through and part of the tire was burnt/melted. I had driven 6 hours straight about a day before the symptoms began. So, after the fact, we were thinking that it was possibly some sort of toxic thing with some fumes.

The toxic fumes hypothesis sounds more likely to me. If you had meningitis you would probably be dead now if you didn't receive proper treatment.

I'm one of those people who could make out with a million sick people and probably never catch anything.

I used to get sick twice a year as a kid - one cold and one stomach bug (which worked out just fine, cause I loved having sick days off from school).
Around high school I got one cold per year, no more stomach bugs.
In college I only got sick once, I got mono. It barely even did anything. I would feel overheated sometimes and have to sit down for a minute. Doctor said it was definitely mono.

Every year there are tons of flus and cols and everyone around me gets sick (especially around exam time, I'm in grad school now). I've never really had a problem.

That's only true of bacterial meningitis. Viral meningitis is not typically life-threatening.

Living overseas in Japan, first winter there, caught the worst case of full blown influenza I've ever seen. 104 degree fever for almost two days, time in hospital getting intravenous fluids and tests after test, fever was over 100 for about a week total. Would have been alone, but the family two doors down had a couple kids who I tutored English to, and their mother was kind enough to bring me groceries, juices, soup and shuttle me to the doctor and hospitals as needed. Very kind for someone I had met just a few times previously. Have no clue how she found out I was even sick, either saw me stumbling home the first day I was sick or the small-town nature of the place means news travels fast. Regardless, very thankful. Wound up losing 25+ pounds, but managed to gain it all back within a few months sadly...

The worst I had was food poisoning over spring break at college. I was pretty much puking and shitting for two or three days. I ended up staying at school and not coming home.

I have an aunt who had hepatitis, and an uncle who had meningitis. The uncle caught it as a child and is a vegetable because of it.

Yeah meningitis is a horrible disease. Food poisoning is often sited as one of the worst things you can get from symptomatic point of view.
