Alice in Chains - Don't Follow

I don't understand why everyone thinks Nutshell is more sad. *shrugs*

I also feel pretty bad when I hear No Excuses. I love AnC.

Last Kiss, though I prefer the Pearl Jam Version

Also Millencolin - The Ballad is pretty darn good.

There are a lot but Walk Away by Ben Harper and Anna Begins by Counting Crows come to mind. Goodbye by Hootie & the Blowfish too.

Hurt - Nine Inch Nails... You do know Nails made music before The Hand That Feeds came on the radio, right?

Angel's Son - Lajon of Sevendust and the band members of Snot (after Lynn Strait's death)

Not exactly rock, but an old classic: Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Agreed. Matter of fact, a few years ago I heard a caller call into a radio show, and said her friend killed himself to that song. :(

Pearl Jam - Black
Alice in Chains - Don't Follow
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt (although the Cash version seems to convey more personal "hurt")

Those are 3 right off the top of my head. I'm sure I could sit down and come up with many more.

AIC - Down In A Hole
Pantera - Cemetary Gates
NIN - lots here.. the persistance of loss / losing hope, and all that could have been, something I can never have

There are tons and tons but those always pull a heartstring for me.

X Japan - Forever Love
or
X Japan - Tears

Both sad songs and they actually played Forever Love at the funeral for their used-to-be member after he committed suicide.
