What is the reputation of SIS?

Until the last 9-12months they weren't impressing the enthusiast crowd(us) but the 735/645 have proven to be very stable and competitive chipsets, especially when their price/performance ratio is taken into account. The 745 seems to be a good alternative to the KT266A for those who avoid Via and the 645 is an excellent P4/DDR platform. The 645DX looks to up the ante yet again but only time will tell if this is indeed the case.

We have 2 of the ECS K7S5A SIS 735 CHIPSET motherboards in the house.
Both have been very inpressive in terms of stability, performance and VALUE.
My daughters is running XP while the other, ny wifes, has 98SE on it.
Both run very well.
I have a Live Card on the 98 box and we are using the onboard sound on the XP box.
No issues at all.

in the past, they used to make shoddy stuff. with the 645 and 735, they've become somewhat of a value leader since their reliability went up.

SiS is a good company. They're experienced in making integrated chipsets, and have made good ones since the SiS-530. They have decent reliability and stability, and I adore their single NB/SB chip design. Only problem is very few high end mobo makers use SiS. Gigabyte, MSI and ASUS all outlined mobos in their PRs based on the SiS 735 and SiS 730, but they all backed down (except the Asus A7S)

SiS used to be horrible, and pretty much everything they made was suck. ( but that was on pourpose to be CHEAP which was more important )

When they caome out with the 735 chipset, it freaked everyone out, because it basicly rocked. It was the top of the pile for a little while, it even crushed boards 3 times the price.

The K7S5A is not perfect tho. I have had no problems, and I buy tons of them ( I have 4 in the house, running almost every OS and CPU ) Others have had mega problems.

I would give SiS as a company, at this moment an 8 out of 10. I would deffinately let others figure out if there newest boards are any good before I buy them tho...
