What is the purpose of the NV Silencer 6

Why is there even an NV Silencer 6? The NV Silencer 6 isn't even compatible with the GeForce 7XXX video card series, but yet the NV Silencer 5 rev. 3 is. I mean why even label something with a higher main version number of it is not going to be compatible with newer generation video cards?

What advantages did the NV Silencer 6 even have over the NV Silencer 5? It doesn't seem like it has any advanatges. Is it just a mere marketing gimick by Arctic Cooling?

No, its made for the 6600GT. At the time, the NV5's did not fit the 6600GT when it came out. Thus a specific model for the 6600GT came out. Use that thing up there in your head...

Ver 5 and 6 are different

Ver 6 supports:
AGP: NVIDIA FX 5700
PCIe: Geforce 6200
Geforce 6600 (GT)

Ver 5 supports:
AGP: Geforce 6800
Series,
FX 4000
PCIe: Geforce 6800
Series
Geforce 7800
Series
Quadro FX 1400,
3400, 3450, 4400,
4500

Neither supports 7900 products (without some filing) so look for a new one to support those soon

Only the 7900GT because of it's reduced PCB length. The NV Silencer 5 fits the 7900GTX just fine (though there would be no point in it)

Well it would fit both the X1800 and the X1900 series but since it doesn't cool the mem regulators, probably not a good idea.
