Are you supposed to sharpen only one side or do you sharpen the serrated parts individually?

I didn't know you could sharpen a serrated knife.

I've got a nice set of Heinkels knives and 2 are serrated but one is going kind of dull. I'm not sure if you can sharpen them either.

grab the blade with one hand, so the "teeth" are facing towards your palm. Then take the other and gently move the knife back and forth, like you were carving a Thanksgiving turkey. Heard it works wonders.

You can sharpen the "flat" side of the serated blade. If your blade has the divots all on one side, slightly sharpen the back flat side and it works nicely.

Thanks. I thought that might be it but didn't want to mess them up.

There are some really good guides to the subject on http://www.bladeforums.com

Several ways, it depends on what you have available. Using a crock stick (ceramic rod) works well, either on one or both sides.

Best method I've found is using the Spyderco Tri-Angle sharpmaker.

Really, really simple. Really good results.
