Just finished setting up the new system this weekend (my 1st!) and it looks like this:
ASUS p4C800-E deluxe
Intel P4 3.0C
ATI 9800 pro
2 SATA drives (i just want to run them as seperate drives with NO RAID configuration)
1 Gb mem, etc.

When i turn it on, it says "searching for device..." or something like that, and then comes back with a "no device found" and "BIOS not installed" messages. Then XP boots up and it runs like a charm.
I've read here on the p4c800 dedicated thread that this "normal", it's just the Promise Controller enabled when it shouldn't be. I'm sorry for what i'm about to ask, but could someone please explain to me what the "Promise controller" is, and why i'd need it? Does it have to do with RAID configurations, and that's why i don't need it?

Also, any other setup pitfalls i should watch for? Like with the Intel chipset... like in this thread? http://www.techsupportforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7599&forumid=15
Thanks again guys. The build went well and the copmuter's up and running (and really amazing!)... i just want to make sure it's all as stable as it can be.
I havn't updated the bios yet, or really done anything.
Thanks so much
matt
