What is the process of getting papers for my full-blooded Chihuahua?

I have a 7 month old female Chihuahua, who has yet to be "fixed". Just today, a lady walked into the shop here at work and had a teacup Chihuahua, so of course I began to chat a bit about them, and told her of my little girl. Well she was looking to breed her little guy before she gets him "fixed", and told me that it is ideal to breed a smaller male with a larger female. If she knows what she's talking about, then our dogs are the perfect match. She is looking to evenly split the litter (an odd pup would go to me I assume, since I have the female).

My gf and I never gave any thought to breeding, but it doesn't sound like too bad of a plan, seeing as to how you can get $350+ out of each pup given the right breeding process. But, we don't have the papers on our dog, but she is definitely full-blooded Chihuahua. I was wondering if anyone out there could shed some light on what the process is to get the papers to certify her as a Chihuahua, and how much does it typically cost?

Thanks.

IIRC, it's not too expensive to register them... However, you'll need the papers of the parents to prove she's full blooded.

OMG, you are your bitch's pimp! :p

I don't know about how to get the papers, maybe try calling your vet or where you bought the dog from and see if they have any info.

yeap the parents have to have papers. Usually when you purchase them you get the papers before (thats why you pay so much) otherwise everyone would be getting papers for any dog.

But there are diffrent groups of papers you can get them from.

Aren't there already enough dog breeders and puppy farms? Do yourself a favor, get your dog fixed and just enjoy her. I have a ChiWeenie that is great. She can chew your ankle off before you know she's in the room. :Q

Well, I haven't really decided to breed her yet. It was just the initial thought of the money that kind of got me going. The chances aren't big that I'll actually breed my Chihuahua, but it's always nice to know what I would be getting into should I decide to do it.

Both parents have to be registered with the association your dog is going to be registered with, and you have to have proof of full bloodedness (is that even a word?:p) You need the parents names, reg. #, and a few other things I think. It varies from one association to another.

:D. That's the only logical reason to breed if you ask me. But with the info Chelsey provided, sounds like too much trouble. I definitely don't want to spend more money and time than what I'd get in return.

Doubtful I'll do it, but thanks for the info guys.

Actually, the parents do have the papers. I bought the dog from a friend's parents, who are getting older and can't really afford or keep up with doing everything correctly. That's how I got the dog for $100, because she hadn't gotten any papers or shots.

And yes, Eli, your cat probably could own my sissy little Chihuahua. :D
