I have the Westell 6100 Modem. Earlier i had some issues and then resetted my modem. I then had to reconfig my modem. I use Verizon Online DSL by the way and have had it for 4-5 years already.
To those of you who have a linksys wrt54 router, do most of you use bridge mode? The thing is the bridge mode, which i am in now, i do NOT have the internet light showing green. I know this is how it is suppose to because support told me this. Verizon online support tells me this is the preferred method to have a linksys router on.
The problem with this for me is that i would never know when my internet would act up and when i would lose connection. Also, i cannot see my tranceiver stats this way as well.
The way i have my modem and router set up before this was first set my modem in bridge mode to get my router working. Then i did these steps where i unbridged it where the green light on my westell 6100 shows and my router works as well. The great part about this is i can always type 192.168.1.1 and see my tranceiver stats with the margin db to see if it is good because i get so many frequent disconnects. Now, i when i type 192.168.1.1, i have access to the linksys and no access to the Westell page and i want to have access to this page. It used to be 192.168.2.1 but some Verizon person on the phone made some changes that i don't like.
Verizon support tells me not to do it my way because i I would have connectivity issues because i would be trying to go online through both my router and modem and there would be problems. The bridge mode would allow me to go to the internet through my router. The thing i have with this is that i don't always want my router plugged on. I know i can just unplug it but then my internet with my desktop would not work because i would be on bridge mode. Or if i want to see tranceiver stats, i have to unplug my router and reset my modem again.
I usually do not have my router plugged on. Do most of you say its better to have the router bridged and where the Modem shows no internet light or the method i have? The method i use is i connect the internet through my modem where the Internet light shows green. If i want to have my router on, i just go connect it back in and both my wired internet and wireless would work. The great part about this is again i can see the tranceiver stats all the time.
Do most of you people use the bridge mode or the mode i use? What is the mode i use called? Is it called unbridged? Because i know unbridged mode means you go online through your modem but i am going online through my modem and it also allows me to connect my router anytime without me needing to reset it for my internet to work. I mean i'm not in bridge mode but this way allows me to connect my linksys router on as well and also gives me the chance to look at my internet light so i can know if my internet would turn bad etc. The reason why i say this is because my Verizon Dsl disconnects a lot.
Can someone tell me how I can do this setup i described? I had this setup about a month ago and it was great. However, i resetted my modem and I cannot find a way to get back into this mode. Can someone help? Thank you.
