What is the point of showing post count?

I ask this because I hang around AT quite a bit, and it seems that there are a lot of people who post just to read their own messages. I realize this happens at every BBS on the internet, but maybe if AT dropped the post count under the name then the 'problem' would go away. If some people really set stock in their post count, as if it is a sign of how upstanding they are, then all they need to do is say useful/meaningful things and their name will be 'famous' anyways.


I dunno, what do you guys think.
Also, I am not saying this b/c I have a low postcount or anything, lol, just wondering about whether everyone jealously guards their postcount as much as other people.

I agree, i think we just need the reg date bu thats just my opinion.


 
i used to post at a UBB board where you could delete your own posts, so you could post to up your count and delete to lower it

if i ran a forum, i wouldn't display post count, but i would want (if possible) to post something like # of days visited or something
 
post count really means pretty much nothing to me, and i agree, without post counts we would have a looooooooot less bs posts, oh well
 
If some people want to waste their time posting for the sake of posting, let them do it. They'll be wasting their time, and be known for their BS posts on Anand. If anyone really takes their status on Anand seriously, then they should seek some help.
