What Is the Point of Omega Drivers?

Like the title says, why should i, or any of you use omega drivers instead of ati's catalyst? Could i have an explanation as to why htey exist?

I just installed the 3.6 Omega over the cat 3.5. The benefits I see are it comes with overclocking tab, and other stuffs like artifacter. My score went down on Quake 3 by 7-8 frames on demo1, gain 100 point on 3dmark2001se, and loss 50 ponits on 3dmark2003. Need more tests to see, everyone say its better in game, but suck on bench compared to Cat.

They are optimized driver's that increase performance. Sometimes though the regular ATI driver's are better for your system depending on different variables. Try them if they improve your systems performance use them, if not don't. 😎

My impression on the Omegas is that they are NOT for benches. It's a mix-n-match of files and settings to provide you with better image quality rather than just pure speed.

The omega is better in game. When I was using cat 3.5, madden 2004 shutter at 4AA/8AF with max detail. Now it omega 3.6, it runs as there was no AA/AF. 🙂

all the omega drivers are is tweaked regular drivers from ATI & NVIDIA, you can do the same thing yourself with all the tweak programs that are out for both kinds of cards. he does it for the " lazy " people who do not like to mess with all the different registry and video settings

From what i heard he does in nvidia omegas anyway, he actually takes different parts of different driver version and puts them together. Like the detonator 42.3* was incredibly fast at multi operations leading to the "unlocking" of the fillrate capability in the GF4TI series. Many high 3dmark01 scorers are using V42.35 and V42.37 drivers. Thus, the Omega driver took that advantage and combined it with newer driver sets for optimum image QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE.

If that is all they are then NVidia wouldn't have tried to shut him down. He will take the parts of the Open GL and DirectX that work best from different sets and put them together all in one set. Then he tweaks them for the best IQ plus speed. Usually his are not the fastest but often the best drivers out there for a specific Driver. I still think what he did with CAT 3.5 was amazing for speed and IQ. Add in a overclocker and the soft hack plus some other things and you have the Omega drivers.

I for one like the choices of different drivers; and sometimes Omegas are the best set going.

Yes the image quality is amazing, but i literally lost 20% performance across the board (synthetic benchmarks and games) after switching to them from the standard ati catalyst drivers. In my opinion, the improved image quality wasn't worth such a performance hit. Although for others they barely lose any performance or it can sometimes actually improve.
