What is the point of modding your case aesthetically?

I would like to buy a new fancy case with pretty lights and a big window but then I always ask myself, "Who is going to see this case but me?" I admit I have no friends to speak of and my girlfriend could care less what my computer looks like. Oh I'm sure someday I'll update my case but until then who cares what it looks like.

some people like to have a nice case even if they are the only person to see it

well if you have the urge to buy a fancy case with pretty lights then there must be some satisfaction on your part after the build.
so, if you think its gonna make you happy i'd say go for it! :D

I added a window to showcase the amount of effort I spent on cable management. My tower is located on top of my desk. It's confusing to see things like this. Why take the time to mount a window when the wires look like spaghetti and the case is going to be hidden in the desk cabinet, probably with the door shut?

i consider modding to be more like a hobby. some people enjoy it and find it fun

I do just for the fun of it. Also just to stand out from the crowd of ugly beige cases. It makes it unique and your own. I modded an older Apex Supercase (cheapy $30 case) by installing a window, adding more fan mounts and painting it orange just to say I did it, then I gave it to my girlfriend as a gift and she loves the fact that she has a flourescent orange computer :)

lol I do it because I can ... and I have fun fooling around with differnet confiurations and colors ahd whatever ... same reason people draw pictures and the same reason people paint their engine blocks ... most will never see it but a mod is a mod :)

i like it cuz its a nightlight;) and well, one can see if a fan is buggered, or simply how much dust is caked on the hs fan at a glance.

Some of us like to see all that mess of wires, and know that we were the ones that wired it, and it all still works. :)
I just like all that tech stuff, and electronics. Like the Mars Rovers....I almost wish I had a replica of one of the things just to look at the intricate work that went into it.


Medellon - similar situation. Got a nice...well, fairly nice case mod on my main system (it was my first attempt at it, and I messed up a few things, but it still turned out ok.) I'm the only one who really sees it often, though my mom says it does look quite nice. And yeah, I think it does - case lighting (three colors, independently controlled), green paint, custom cooling arrangement. My secondary system is also modded, and it's a much nicer job I think. Black marble shelf liner, black-painted front, nicely done case window...and a mess of wires inside. But after all, it does have 4 hard drives in it, and a slew of other hardware. :D And UV lighting.
So there, that's why you mod your case - to have it look nice so you can see it, and so that you can pimp your PC case online to other people who probably really don't care about it, but you feel good telling it. :p

Some people drive Chevy Metros and some drive Corvettes. You sound like the Metro type.

Me, I got a '50 Chevy that's been slammed, shaved and molded. Also a couple of PC's that constantly stay in some state of mod, whether paint, chopped, or water cooled. All my PC's are overclocked.
