What is the point of giving your business card to a coworker/colleague?

It's not like I can't look you up in the company directory or anything...

Am I missing the point? Or is it just an ego-stroke sort of thing?

I would think it odd if one of my coworkers gave me one.

Did he also put something like, Master of Science (MS) after his name?

I have kept business cards of my supervisors and other management type people in my wallet even tho i could look up the info in he company directory. I find it usefull just in case something ever happens to my cell phone, or worse were i need to contact the person. So in my case it was not ego, just being practical. In other cases, if they are peer, it may be ego, unless perhaps its a person from a different division / or facility altogether.

Formality of the introduction, want to leave you something to remember who he is (like if he's requesting something), etc. In japanese companies it's like a damn ritual.

I always have cards sitting on top of my desk and request people take one if they like, they normally do.

I don't see a point, which is why I don't have business cards. If I were in sales, then absolutely I'd have them (but I still wouldn't give to coworkers).

They want you to admire the subtle off-white coloring... it's tasteful thickness....
My God, it even has a watermark.

Most people don't realize that unless you are in sales or own your own company, you need a calling card, not a business card. Why would anyone that you meet at a bar care that you are an account manager for Symantec or what your work phone, email, or fax is? Do you want your personal relationships contacting you at work? And even if you meet someone at a conference, why would they want your business card? As an IT guy, are you in a position to sell them something? No, that's sales' job.

It's a hint. You are supposed to have a fishbowl and a lucky draw.

The quote was from a movie or TV show right? But still, it sounds rather... pornographic... none the less.

*woosh*

It does indeed sound dirty, but I don't get to *woosh* often so I'll *woosh* whenever I can. No hard feelings.

Cool, I'll *woosh* with you then. *WOOSH*

Best part about *woosh*ing is if you *woosh* a blonde, it sounds like you're sitting on the beach at the ocean.

*woosh*!!!

What good is the directory if you can't remember the name???
