What is the point of "Anti" campaigns?

Read a few articles today that stated that anti-smoking, drug, alcohol and sex ads and campaigns are not doing well.
Well NO SH!T!!!

It comes down to the fact that the more you tell someone NOT to do something, the more they WANT to do it.

Amazing the amount of money is wasted on billboards and commercials, could be put to better use, like, mabey getting kids off the streets.

Yeah but hey, it feels good doing it. Look at me, I'm a tobacco awareness educator specialist. Someone give me a Congressional Medal of Honor!

This allows the government to waste more of your hard earned money. I was hearing some talk show that was amazed that kids today thought nothing of cigarettes, as in no big deal about smoking them. Sorry all the ads possible are not going to influence a kid when the kid sees his "heroes" on TV do all the things that the "anti" campaigns are against.

a lot of these "anti" campaigns are not designed to tell you not to do someting, but rather to educate you.

I think the anti-smoking (or whatever) campaigns--especially the commercials--are not being sucessful because they are so corny and stupid. It is important for some kind of education though. That way, if they choose to smoke or whatever, they won't have to sue the companies when they are 60-years-old for $3 billion.

Right. Lets just not educate kids on the dangers of tobacco/drugs, and just let them do it, and they'll learn for themselves when they die.
