I saw this lappy at sams club for 1000 bucks

http://www.sharpsystems.com/pr...ts/datasheets/AL27.pdf

looks pretty good to me, but the battery life is kind of low.

I was really wondering what is the point of a A64 system in a notebook if you cant play any games since the onboard video sucks.

Is it going to run vid programs better then a pentium M notebook? multitask better?

what do you guys think of the Sharp notebook. i didnt even know sharp made computer stuff until today.

i looked at this computer a while back but i want a real gpu. but i should preform about the same or a little better than the pm with ig. but the batt life will never be close.
also i thought about the reason for pairing a a64 to a ig. and it is completely gay. i woundered the same about hpcompc with the 2 year old gpu. dumb as hell.

Please do not call things "gay". If you're insecure about your own sexuality, that is a subject for Off Topic.
Also, there is a point of the A64 in an integrated-graphics motherboard. If you want to encode Mp3s fast and do a little photoshopping, integrated graphics are fine; these are CPU-intensive tasks. Unless you're gaming, you do'nt need anything above a Unichrome anyways.

I agree with Cheesehead completely about the "gay" remark. I also agree completely with him about the use for such a machine. There are plenty of uses for a fast processor in a machine that don't have anything to do with gaming. Also, your best video cards for gaming aren't the best for design work anyway; that's why high-end multimedia designers who want the best hardware are still stuck on the desktop to this day, so they can buy workstation-class graphics cards with 512 megs of memory and up.

I agree totally that an A64 laptop without dedicated graphics isn't for everybody. But hey, A64 laptops aren't for everybody to start with. They seem to appeal to a very small segment of the population.

i just ignored the "gay" remark.

but anyway
Well for me being a student in college. i value battery life more then encoding mp3s and photoshopping more. I have my main rig for that. i was really hoping this lappy would have a long battery life since it looks real cool and is not heavy to me. but 2 hours is just not enough.

any recommendations are a good lappy around 1000?

just to let you know, the point of the athlon 64 is not for gaming. just because it is better then intel at gaming doesnt make it a "gaming only" cpu. it's faster in general then the comparitive P4 and multi-task's at 100%. the P4 w/ HT multi-tasks at 110%.

just a nitpick here : unichromes are OK for watching video, but cant touch ATi radeon family video cards. i am dying to find out what p650 will be like :D

Actually, the true mobile A64 would consume about the same amount of overall power as the Celeron-M, since the A64 has lower leakage and the Celeron cannot throttle down in speed. The Pentium-M would still be lower on the power consumption scale but good luck finding a new 15" model for under $1k.

If you already have a main rig you might consider a 12" iBook. Find a local apple store and take a look at them.... You can pick up a 12" 1.2ghz G4 for around $700 if you count rebates and such and sell things that come with rebates (IE: printers).
