My guess is thats its a ATA/66/100 controller like a promise or a highpoint, got any of those in the comp?

It has a built in highpoint which I am not using. I assumed it was for RAID, which I am also not using at the time.

$hit, I am on my daughter's machine.
I installed the highpoint drivers and now I get a BSOD when it starts to load the windows drivers. Guess I'll go into safe mode and disable the highpoint and see if that does it.

<edit to add text>

That didn't do it.

Thats the highpoint 370 controller. You can download the drivers from highpoint website.

If you are not using your built in highpoint controller, why not remove the driver, reboot and disable it in the BIOS?

I removed it in safe mode, I can now get in windows. I am not sure I can disable it in the BIOS but I will look after dinner. Thanks for all the help.

you should be able to disable it, i've done it with my 366. Mines under the 'Intergrated Peripherals' section. I just set the line that says "Ultra dma-66 IDE controller to 'disable'. And PooF! the highpoint disapears.. Note your BIOS is probally a tad bit different...Mines is BEHUH on a Abit BE6-2, BTW

I was able to disable it in the BIOS and now the Mass Storage Controller's drivers don't show up with an exclamation point in the device manager. Thanks for all the help.

I had this problem the first time I installed my Soyo 6BA+IV - the system REALLY does not like having the Highpoint drivers installed with no drives on the controller, leading to nothing but scary hard crashes.
