What is the oldest file you have?

By access I mean, view the contents of, even if not necessarily with the original program intended for it. If you can check it out in Notepad without experiencing corruption, it counts.

Either on floppy, or a hard drive, whatever. As long as you can get to it.

Hmmm.. I still have a floppy with the original Netbus client on it. I'd say it's about 7 years old. I've thrown most old stuff out.

All my old stuff is on 3.5" floppies.

Word Perfect 5.1 backup, 2/12/93
The Price Is Right, copyright 1991 Gametek. I can still open the price list file.
SimCity Classic for Windows Version 1.1, copyright 1993

The oldest data file that I have in my current document structure was last modified 5/9/2000.

I know I have CDs and floppies around here somewhere from the early and mid-90s.

With me, an original copy of Lemmings with files dating back to 3/31/1991. I have a bunch of 5.25 inch disks at home; I think some have computer utilities from 1989 for an 80286 PC.

I still have a copy of Alleycat (an old DOS game that I used to play all the time as a kid) - the date on the file is 8/22/1984, a few months before I was born. 😛

It's very likely that this isn't an original copy though (one that survived through 15+ years of computer hardware upgrades and replacements), I think I just re-downloaded it from an abandonware site some time in the past few years.

I still have my original DOS 6.22 disks, Windows 3.1 disks and Norton Utilities 7 for DOS....IIRC they date back to 1992, they came with my IBM PS/2 Model 70 386DX PC.

i have bunch of games from my dads old computer

paratroopers
digger
pango
sokoban
star wars (the 1 on 1 with gravity)
king's quest 1,2,3 (3 being my favorite)
the original larry

this stuff dates back to mid 80s

No way, KQ5 was the best by far...

true that, but it's not as old. I played KQ3 when I was 5 or 6. KQ5 was the first game I played in VGA (256 f..ing colors!! 🙂 so it's special in its own way.

I have a bunch of 5.25" floppies and 2-3 20meg hard disks that I could grab files off if I could be bothered. 😛

The oldest stuff is probably from ~1995.

I have a pile of 5 1/4 inch floppies from the early 80's in a drawer somewhere... Mostly old games. I don't know if they're corrupted or not, and I'm not going to bother going through my museum of boxes of old parts to find an old floppy drive to check.
