I know a lot of you don't have a high opinion of high school education nowdays, but I recently heard such a nerdy and funny story from my friend regarding his high school: Thomas Jefferson High School in Alexandria, VA. For those of you who dont' know TJ, it's one of the best high schools in America.
While he was there, a local radio station help a Mandy Moore radio contest for the local high schools in the county. The high school with the most votes on their website got Mandy Moore to come to their high school and do a concert. Well, A bunch of TJ students wrote scripts to do the voting and ran them off MIT servers. When it was all said and done, the third place school had like 2500 votes, 2nd place school had 5000 votes and TJ had like 2.7 million votes....after 500,000 votes were thrown out. But apparently Mandy Moore was impressed, and wanted to meet the guys who wrote the scripts!
