What is the name of that thing you put around the boxspring on a bed?

Around here it's called either a dust ruffle or a bed skirt; a "valence" is what goes above a window, and a sham is a decorative case that goes on a pillow that has no functional use whatsoever.

Huh, the useless knowledge you gain when you're married...

I call it a bed skirt.

I just use a fitted sheet on my boxspring. It's not frilly and it covers the box spring. :)

valance goes over a window, duvets go over the comforter.

The part around the bottom is the dust ruffle, bed skirt, etc. Has lots of names.
