Just put my new system together. Everytime I restart it looks for the "multimedia Audio Controller". I can't find it on my drivers discs. Installed XP SP1. Still comes up. Any ideas??

Also, what about "SM bus controller"? Same thing there too. It says found new hardware but I can't find the driver for it in any of my discs. Help!

Thanx

did you install the mobo drivers as those should be included

is it intel or amd?

what mobo?

what have you installed so far?

is onboard audio off or on in bios?

Thanks for the reply. My computer specs are below. I've I'm not using onboard audio or video. I stuck every disk I've got in there and it can't find the driver. As I said, I updated XP with service pack 1 and all drivers are updated. When I click on "SM Bus Controller" properties, it says:

Location: PCI Bus 0, Device 31, Function 3

Here are my PC specs:
P4 2.53g 533
Epox 4G4A+
1024 mb PC2700 Samsung ram
Leadtek GF 4 ti4200 128mb
Phillips Seismic Edge s/c
Firewire
Win Modem
HD's: 30G Maxtor, 80G WD, 120G WD SE (all drives 7200 rpm)
Win XP Home

Thanks for any help. I really appreciate it.

Ok, I got the "multimedia audio controller" taken care of.

As for the "SM Bus Controller", I downloaded the file and tried installing it and it didn't work. I got a near- catastrophic windows failure. It's still not working right. Can someone please explain what you need to do to load it? I read through the readme files and it looks like it might be relatively involved.

Also, there are two files, one larger than the other,. I downloaded the second one afterwards and tried that. It asked for a disk with a 'cab' file. I tried XP and my Epox motherboard disc and it didn't find the file and therefore couldn't load. If someone could please explain what you had to do to load it I would be greatly indebt. Thanks,

Use this one. It's the very latest Intel inf drivers. 4.04.1007, just released on 10-7-02.

I've had the same "SM bus controller" issue on several P4 rigs I've built and installing the Intel inf drivers has fixed it.
